Gape was started at first as a joke between vocalist James Misina and his friend Jimmy Kelly, former guitarist of Public Noise. Jimmy suggested to James, "You should start a band and call it something stupid, like Gape."

Very quickly, the band was formed after fellow friends and High School classmates Joe O'Donnell (bass), Ben Villano (guitar), and Adam Badgley (drums) decided to try it out. After a few practices, Villano wasn't feeling it, being replaced by current guitarist Jordan Mormello.

What began as a joke quickly became reality. Gape began by writing 2 songs and learning a cover or two. With a very small setlist and no fan base, they began playing very small local shows. After only having a taste of what the band had in store, many friends began attending shows. Eventually they had a decent amount of fans in the Philadelphian suburbs.

Gape's first attempt at recording was Shadows EP. This demo contained a few of their earliest works, and was done in a friend's basement studio. Because they were not happy with the quality, Gape has since taken the demo down on most websites. However, you can still find it on Bandcamp. Listen at your own risk.

Gape's first legitimate release, Gape, was made public on September 12th, 2015, and was produced fully in Adam's basement. The 5 song EP, which contains 2 songs from Shadows EP and 3 newly recorded songs, can be downloaded for free on soundcloud or band camp (see links in the beginning of this bio.) Or, if the opportunity arises, ask one of the members for a CD. They have a constant supply, and are 100% free.

Gape originally contained 11 songs. However, as the release date grew closer, some songs had to be cut. They decided on releasing their 5 favorites from the album, and intend on re-recording the rest for a future release.
