This month's playlist highlights Danny Daze, who, in addition to being an all around incredible musician and DJ, runs his own Omnidisc label which is quickly becoming quite the source for ethereal techno material.

This is the beginning of the end and also the beginning of the beginning. The people in the dark damp cellar room couldn’t quite grasp it. But they could grasp the sordined trumpets coming out of the oversized speakers placed right behind them.

Next up is KVK900 with the much sought after track ‘House Music’. A 14 minute long mesmerizing house journey that’s already been included in Ryan Elliotts Panorama Bar 06 mix. On the B-side you'll find 'The Glitch', a psyched out techbomb stuck in the Karlovak machine.

This release also marks the beginning of the end for this series. The KVK series is coming to an end with KVK1000 being it´s final release. 
Karlovak will live on though, but through KRLVK, the new Karlovak series featuring originals from other artists such as Radio Slave, Ben Sims, DJ Jes alongside Mr. Tophat & Art Alfie

I first played Panorama Bar on July 7th, 2007 and I have been playing there regularly since. I remember entering the club and feeling all those things everyone feels when they enter Berghain or Panorama Bar for the first time - excitement, joy, tension, fear… almost every emotion. I’m a lot more comfortable playing there now after all that time naturally, but all those emotions are still present in every set.

Panorama Bar has, to me, always stood for quality house music. I still play many of the same records there that I did in the beginning. Of course many new records have come and gone in those seven years of sets, but my musical direction has never changed. The title of the mix is “Panorama Bar 06 - Ryan Elliott”, it is my version of what Panorama Bar sounds like.

I knew I wanted to have roughly 30 to 40 tracks on the mix. Also, because the mix wouldn’t be a physical CD anymore, I wanted to have two EPs of exclusive material, to add a little more of a physical element. I started the A+R process for the exclusive material in February 2014. I received so much good music that we decided to put five tracks on each of the EPs, totaling 10 exclusive tracks. After that I started going through all my records and folders of music to pick the remaining material. In a perfect world, I could have used any song on the mix that I wanted. But, there is the agreement from the tracks’ owners to consider. Saying that, there were only 2 or 3 records that I wanted to use on the mix that I wasn’t able to for one reason or another. 

The most important thing to me was that the mix actually sounds like a night at the club. That it would contain tracks that I’ve played in the club many times. I wanted the mix to contain a few of my Panorama Bar ‘classics’. Because of the new format of the mix, I was a little concerned that some of the older producers wouldn’t be up for giving their agreement for using their tracks, but for the most part I was pleasantly surprised. Besides a few classics, I really wanted a wide range of songs on the mix. Some old, some new and unreleased, some new and released, exclusives, etc.

I don’t view Panorama Bar 06 as just another ‘free downloadable mix’. This mix is available as a fully mastered wave file, includes full artwork and is complimented by two EPs of exclusive material. Vinyl still exists because it's a fidelity and physical thing for DJs. DJs actually use it to do their jobs. We don’t see many tapes or 8-tracks being sold now and the CD will soon go the same way. I made the mix as long as it should be, without thinking about time limitations. We can do that now!

@opalsunn's return to Nick Höppner's Touch From A Distance is sort of a recap of 2019 - a year that proved pretty incredible for the duo of Alex Kassian and Oba Hiroaki. Their live show took them quite literally all over the world including Tokyo, Valencia, Ho-Chi-Minh-City, Hanoi, Fusion Festival, England's beloved Field Maneuvers and last but not least: Panorama Bar in Berlin, where they performed twice in 2019  as part of the Touch From A Distance labelnights.
Their „Laika EP“ has been largely inspired by their first Panaroma-Bar-performance in january last year, which they - unassuming, yet assertive - took by storm. Eight months later their show in the Laika tent at the UK's best kept festival secret Field Maneuvers marked a second highlight in Opal Sunn's calendar. As a tribute, Opal Sunn have called the opening track to this record „Laika“.
Their second ep for Touch From A Distance is picking things up, where their debut left off, meaning Opal Sunn's sound design is as pristine as a mountain spring and their arrangements are as tight and effective as ever. Having played numerous gigs in the meantime, there seems to be a new focus, though. All four tracks feel much more centered and balanced, aiming quite effortlessly at  a heaving dancefloor.
„Laika“, the ep's lead track, sees Opal Sunn at their most effective and peak time. A long build up and a rolling 303 bassline make for a total sureshot of a track.
On „Minority State“, the duo let's their Electro inclinations run free, fusing razor sharp beats with icy melodies and abstract sound effects.
On the b-side, „Holy Mountain“ is essential Opal Sunn: Glistening arpeggios, gliding melodies and floating beats create a psychedelic atmosphere predestined to lose yourself in.
The ep ends with „Tangerine Blues“, an equally atmospheric and trance-y  track embedded in a rather broken beat, going for a more cinematic vibe.
