"...Next up steps Sharif Laffrey to remix ‘Techno Cave’. For me Sharif’s productions are like a modern take on the Ron Hardy vibe. It literally is mental edits, fat as you like analogue house, and a sound that makes me want to go and hear them out in a club. For me he sort of (massively accidentally) seems to pull together some of the best music of the last 30 years in a modern way. It’s like the cuts and edits from the Latin Rascals meets the aforementioned Ron Hardy vibe of cut and paste disco with mad bottom end and fx in a modern and warm production style. He’s ace. Ah yeah the mix… Again its proper messed up edited house for the heads that would weirdly work on any dancefloor."

After his A T.D.L.D Joint EP in 2014 and his Needs EP from 2016 Tokyo-based producer Omar Santis returns for the third time to Karakul, Phonica's sub-label for deeper House approaches. The artist's latest EP on label, Thursday Night Funktion, is a reference and dedication to the Omar's Tokyo club night Funktion, namely also based on the Funktion One soundsystem, which takes place at Oath in Shibuya. Coming with altogether four orginals, even though Cameo Appearance is a digital bonus track only, and Iron Curtis' remix for the latter named digital track. The Berliner, having a preference for proper House music – whether it's deep, soulful or with a disco-ish note – comes in with a multi-facetted take that contains darker chords, breakbeats and milling around vocal snippets, all highlighted by a lush and stalwart bass line and again creates a take that showcases his signature or trademark sound elegantly and in a sophisticated manner.

Omar Santis' EP Thursday Night Funktion was released on Karakul onn July 31st, 2020.

Amongst the open armed greetings, excited laughter and lively chatter, she couldn't quite find her footing. It was as if there was an invisible wall she couldn't break down. She could hear everyone else but the words to respond weren't coming to her. How could it be that even surrounded by a room full of friendly faces and old friends, she felt isolated and alone... 

After a brief release hiatus during lockdown, East London party and label Snap, Crackle & Pop get things rolling again with an EP from cult Glaswegian post punk group Junto Club. Marking their second release for SC&P following 2016's Shiviana / Ikiryo EP which helped launch the imprint, The Alameda sees the band build on their distinct sound, crafting a more dance-floor focused sound by letting the synths and drum machines do the talking. On the flip, both tracks get the rework treatment from Gabe Gurnsey and Groove Armada remixer Fall Forward and longtime SC&P collaborator, Ombra International boss Curses, who steers 'Alone' into darker realms with a punchy, driving techno take on the original.
