Let's meet our dj for episode 484, Basic Rhythm:
1. Tell us about upcoming releases you’re excited about on Raw Basics and Musique Nocturne.

The Revival EP is the last release on Raw Basics before I launch Musique Nocturne later this year. I am very excited about the new label as it will focus solely on forward looking D&B, and I have some great collaborations with some MCs, and producers Kid Drama, J Kenzo and others in the world.

2. What is the best track you’ve produced?

Whichever tracks I am working on at the time. I am always most excited by the next thing, the new thing. Although, I am still quite pleased with the Dread 12” that came out on Raw Basics last year, and the Still EP on Sneaker Social.

3. Since you played on Pirate Radio in your younger years, share with us a funny or wild story about playing on Pirate Radio.

One of my fondest memories is of playing on Rude FM back in the day, alongside people like Fracture, Mark System etc, when we were based in a soon to be demolished tower block in Chingford. Just to get in there you had to hide your record bag under your coat or something and wait until the security at the ground floor were on their rounds. And then you would take the lift to the floors above or below the studio and walk to the correct floor. At the time the block was half empty, but there were some gangs in there and on the estate that you also had to avoid. Then when you were at the correct floor you would call the studio phone to get them to let you in, while waiting in the anterior hallway, when they opened the door you would just walk straight through into the flat, rather than waiting outside the door and possibly disturbing any of the remaining tenants on that floor.

Coming June 2023: @BasicRhythm x Blood Trust - Blood Rhythm EP. This innovative collaboration between electronic musician Basic Rhythm (Anthoney J Hart) and rising star Blood Trust (Quinn Smith) features four tracks of dark, experimental drum and bass, inspired by the late 1990s.

Basic Rhythm, known for his London underground dance music roots, blends UK dance music heritage with contemporary sounds. Blood Trust, on the other hand, transcends genre boundaries, focusing on atmospheric narratives to challenge conventional electronic music perceptions.

The "Blood Rhythm EP" showcases the sweet spot between Basic Rhythm's raw dance floor approach and Blood Trust's atmospheric sound. Expect a powerful, dark, and immersive journey back to the golden age of drum and bass, while still exploring new sonic territories.

Anca is a wicked DJ who I first saw shell it down out at an AKOWEEN (iykyk). A regular on the scene, she has played many a high profile nights, including an opening set Rupture. Her selection and mixing skills are reflected in the live guest mix which flows though the various sounds of jungle real nice.

Three years ago, I took a deep breath and decided to get back into DJing after a decade long hiatus and in July ’21 my first live show played out on Aaja Music, a small radio bar nestled in an arch by Deptford Station. Two doors down from Aaja was Discworld, the now rebranded Planet Wax. This is where I met Sicknote, Dexta, and this month’s guest D-LO!

On top of all that - this man is one of the wickedest selectas, playing all vinyl everytime.

Every set I’ve seen him play has been an education. Expect deep cuts and rarities as well as expert blends. So it goes without saying that I’m beyond gassed to have as guest for my 3rd Birthday Show, none other than the D-LO!!

Curator of "Whistle Crew Horns Crew" (@user-187780799), one of the raviest multi-genre parties I have ever had the joy of attending, LS Dare is a true lover of the dance and a selecta that knows to get people moving!

I had the pleasure of doing a cheeky 30mins off air b2b with LS Dare at Aaja last summer, I remember the mix going from dab classics to upfront jungle bangers and back, it was pure NRJ! So gassed to be finally having him on the show - this month's mix has long been overdue!
