Originally released by Musical Freedom, the instrumental edit of 19-year-old Oliver Heldens’ deep house smash ‘Gecko’ has become a staple in club sets for 2014, peaking at #2 in the Beatport chart and garnering support from the likes of Pete Tong, Danny Howard and Zane Lowe. 

The latest edit ‘Gecko (Overdrive)’, written and vocalled by Becky Hill during a late night recording session with MNEK, is being released by Parlophone’s vital new dance imprint FFRR. Initially written for another vocalist, Becky’s towering vocal on Gecko’s chorus was deemed the perfect fit and has already been coined the ‘Hottest Record in the World’ by Zane Lowe.

Oliver Heldens X Becky Hill - Gecko (Overdrive) [Radio Edit]

For fun I made a new track using the amazing funky and catchy melody from Can't Stop Playing (2005) by Dr Kucho! & Gregor Salto and played it in my sets. It got such great responses and Spinnin' Records also loved it! Later I finished it with @GregorSalto himself and now it will be released 29th of august on @SpinninRecords :)

Pow! Republic Artists Records are back and this time present the emerging label’s fiercest work to date. The release’s original material comes from Greek techno powerhouse Nikola Gala, a man whose production record is tried and true, dating back as it does to 2003. We’ve been a huge fan of Gala’s work for a while now so it was only a matter of time before we would ask him to debut on our label. Because we at RA are a family, the only sensible thing to do was have three of our residents & previous release artists remix this pair of mind-melting techno stompers, each in their own style.

Mind Meld 2 is beyond brutal. The track hurtles forward with unstoppable pace: swung synth-stab rhythms and clattering hi-hats combine to create a class-A banger or a big room, peak time floor killer. Serious weapon alert! Slightly more of a warm-up track, milder & more dubby, Mind Meld 1 is the sparser, subtler of the two. More restraint is exercised with regards this track’s ferocity with tension built & sustained throughout via minor undulations in melodic tone and deft deployment of classic 909 hats. Classy, dub-inflected techno at its best!

Jacob B’s crafty, industrial take on Mind Meld 2 has all the soul proper techno music should have, managing to tow the line between hard and soft in minimalistic fashion throughout. Nick Elia dives down deep with gurgling acid bass that lends the original material a trance-like quality without compromising on fierceness. Republic Artists Records boss Thomas Tesla maintains the energy sets by Gala in his own style. Last but not least, Arthur Keen’s is arguably the calmest of the bunch. Keen reworks the original material into a cooler tempo-ed, stylish chuggy groover of a psychedelic-leaning big room techno track.

For the BIRD EP, Julian Jeweil chose to use heavy sounds: mechanical yet melodic at the same time, while maintaining in parallel this pumping, very rhythm-oriented vibe for each of the five tracks. These are mainly the specific elements, reworked in various manners, that you will find in BIRD, AND WE, 153 ESSEX STREET, WAX and CONCEPT.

As summer hits full swing, it makes perfect sense for the accomplished AVOTRE label to offer up some sizzling Ibiza anthems. As such, label boss Santé teams up with musical sparring partner Sidney to present From the Terrace to the Warehouse: Ibiza Heat, a compilation that pulls together seven new tracks of sun kissed dynamite that will soundtrack your every move this summer.
Both Santé & Sidney feature with a brace of killer cuts of their own. Sidney comes correct with ‘Basement Tales’, a tough, jacking track that is physical and irresistibly groovy. Meanwhile, Santé offers ‘Acid Rain’, which is another pure house bomb with rubbery kicks and lots of great synth work as well as that classic squelchy sound we all love.
The rest of the compilation pulls together a clutch of new producer talents that haven’t released on the label before, but each one fits in perfectly with the no nonsense MO of the label to date.
Along the way, the likes of classic house producer Montel offers ‘Body Music,’ which is a physical house cut with thudding kicks and groove laden percussion. Mennie keeps it deep and old school flavoured with the slow jack of ‘Organica’ and Locklead offers up a whacked out, sketchy and playful track that is all lo fi and grainy, bumpy and raw.
Kuo Climax’s ‘Breakdown’ is a high pressure, high impact track with alien synths, sic fi sounds and massive, barreling drums that thud with a real sense of presence. Last but not least Ale Castro’s ‘Schubkraft’ keeps things decidedly deep and retro with hubby basslines, airy hi hats and big splashes of cymbal all riding next to a wub-wub bassline that will sends hands in the air.
This is a brilliantly varied compilation of cuts that both DJs and dancers are sure to love this summer. As ever, AVOTRE has pulled together the finest talents of the day and got the very best out of them.

This month, Tsunga makes his Infinite Machine debut with an EP of hard-edged techno, appropriately titled, Schlangbanger.

Following impressive outings on Black Acre and Trax Couture, the London-based producer ups the ante once again with 4 clunking tracks that sit somewhere in between grime and industrial. Like the mind of an insane robot, psychedelic whirs and bone-rattling percussive patterns are the basis for opener, 'Drip Diet'. It's tracks like this, and producers like Tsunga, that us at Data Transmission predicting a bright future for UK techno.

Bienvenue à la Data Transmission Mix of the Day. We're going French this week, as Louis Roche - aka Madame - steps up to show us his skills.

He may be young, but Madame has been causing quite the commotion amongst big boys like Diplo, Digitalism and Dave Clarke recently. With two singles on GND Records, one on Blood Music, and an EP for BNRTRAX on Boysnoize Records already under his belt, Madame is stood on sturdy ground as he approaches his next release. Returning to BNRTRAX on October 2nd, his Perc99 EP, presents three "sweaty, high energy DJ Tools" according to the press release, so we want to know if Madame can deliver the goods.

The simple answer is: he can. Serving up a blend that includes tracks from Dusky, Randomer and Benjamin Damage, Madame goes full-throttle, Energiser Bunny.
