PIV050 puts newcomers Retrouve in the limelight with a fiery debut EP on both vinyl and digital. The Hungarian duo are the definition of raw talent found within the label's own territory. "Doubt" sets the tone with a solid multiple layered groove, while "Parnell Street" has a joyful variety of bright funky uptempo instruments. On the flipside "Dr. Soul" takes it back deeply with a range of dynamic vocal chops and chords, before "Found" closes the package on a high note for peaktime selection.

Reading-based producer Wodda steps up to deliver two fresh minimal cuts for the Metafloor Records imprint. The young producer has been making waves in the minimal scene of late, and has been turning the heads of fellows DJs and established industry stalwarts alike with his energising and wavy, dub-influenced compositions. 

Title track 'Dutchie' is a bouncy, minimal groover with a fresh mix of melodic stabs, futuristic organ melodies garnishing a nifty, yet subtle, bassline. 

'Apex' veers into darker territory with powerful drum groove, layered over the cool dark ominous synth textures and donks scattered throughout the track. Another rising star James View is on remix duties, and delivers an avalanche of peak-time, bass-filled goodness. This is a real bona fine party anthem which is already started to destroy the dance floors where it has been dropped. 

'Alkalis' is a track made for clubland with Wodda's signature, driving drums, distinctive lead synth sounds and chunky 909 snare fills are washed with subtle dreamy pad sounds to create a perfect tool for those later sets. 

Both Wodda and James View are adept at making dance floor bangers and this record is no exception. You can bet your bottom dollar these gems will be sneaking their way into DJ sets well into 2023.

Matrefakt & Lewy come together to cook up some seriously meaty and full flavour house weapons for Attitudes To Life Records.
Attitudes To Life Records founders and Shade Not Fade, FourThirtyTwo and Unsound Mind artists Matrefakt first met Lewy at a gig in Liverpool in 2019. They all hail from the North West, so soon backed up a promise to get in the studio together, and magic has happened ever since. The fruits of those sessions are ready to go, starting with this first EP, which showcases their high-impact house sound in all its glory. Sarah Story has already been hammering the title track on Radio 1, with Yousef, Anja Schneider and Elisa Bee also supporting it.
Opener 'Summer Breeze' is a rollicking house cut with its chest puffed out. The muscular drums and bass bring subtle funk while rolling snares, neat melodic patterns and edgy stabs add the all-important detail. After that functional but stylish opener comes the more expressive 'M58' (the title of which is a nod to the motorway that connects Lewy's Wigan with Matrefakt's Liverpool). It's turbo-changed house once more, but this time with flashes of diva vocals and a sprinkling of synths that bring a more party-starting vibe. This trio of top cuts completes with 'Midnight Marmalade' - the robust drums and the oversized bassline is cut up with raw synth licks and slapping hits that bring peak time energy to the dance floor.

Premiere: Matrefakt & Lewy - Summer Breeze [Attitudes To Life]

For the debut release on Doozie Records, head honcho PARKER lays down a solid representation of the label's marquee sound. Showcasing what he's pushing, playing, and most importantly visualising. 

The LDN TING EP (DR001) is made up of 4 unique tracks, all of which combined give us a taste of the real vision PARKER had upon creating the label, and what we can expect more of. 

First out of the box is LDN TING, a definite mover. Tight drums and vocal tease, this one's got a real old-school feel. Keen ears will pick up the garage inflection.

Next up is Mr. Organizer, rather aptly named. A sumptuous blend of punchy bass and killer 90s organ. The two play off each other perfectly and keep it pumping. This one's got day party written all over it. 

Doozie takes a moody line, showing some beautiful chord work at the break, but really all over laying it down. One for the peak time bomb collection. 

Hotshot James View is on remix duties, taking us into darker territory with his play on LDN TING. The bassline dominates, drags, and bullies, but behind the groove a lighter synth in play. Fast drums and standout effects settle the score. Hats off to Mr. V, this will no doubt be making serious traction with the scene's biggest players.

Seb Zito - Stranger Things

Defected are proud to revisit the legendary Todd Edwards’ House Masters collection, with a remix from revered underground selector Royal-T. Released in 2021, the original compilation demonstrated Todd’s approach to experimentation in its full glory; his entirely fresh sound, born from chopped up samples and vocal clips, birthed a new genre while giving the American-born producer major underground credibility in the UK and the rest of Europe. Ever since those pioneering releases in the 90s, Todd has cemented himself as one of the fathers of UK garage and he continues to inspire electronic artists to this day. One of these artists is Royal-T, one third of revered UK garage project t q d, who gives Todd’s 1998 classic ‘The Dream’ a bass-heavy spin that serves as a love letter to Todd’s heady original.
