Premiere: Christian Smith - Explanation (Kaiserdisco Remix)

After four stellar releases, Of Paradise appear to have certified their niche; raw, dark and tantalising Lo-fi - exploratively channeling the nooks of floor-driven club music. Well, their fifth release certainly doesn’t waver from this sentiment - respectively thrusting newcomer Dwell into the limelight with the deeply immersive four track E.P, “Virtual Life”. 

As a whole, the EP flaunts a kinda dystopian psychological thriller aesthetic - each track sporting dark discordant chord sequences - almost Blade Runner-esque. This features “Follow the Rabbit” holds this description true - with near theatrical keys, raw-as-hell drums and a colossal acid undercurrent. Whether a good or a scary one - it’s a trip - follow at your own risk.

PREMIERE: Dwell - Follow The Rabbit [Of Paradise]

Hessle Audio is proud to present the first collaborations between longtime friend Joy O and saxophonist Ben Vince. Introduced to each other by Jon Rust, the two tracks are a result of studio sessions together as well as manipulation of Ben’s existing recordings. Both tracks explore the tonal, textural and rhythmic possibilities of Ben's playing within a focused dancefloor framework. Ben Vince will be releasing a solo LP with Where To Now? In late May, featuring collaborations with Micachu and percussionist Rupert Clervaux.

Eluize appears on a new compilation from Of Paradise, the record label has invited a cast of creative producers and forward thinking musicians to create a record which represents the club focussed ethos of the imprint. They hurtled down the motorway at full speed, the entire car bundled with bodies tightly packed in like sardines. Occasionally a head would pop out of the sun roof to bask in the breeze, followed by a lit cigarette butt darting out of the open window. The chatter grew louder as they took the next junction and began to near their destination, with each and everyone throwing in their two cents about missed turnings or short cuts. But soon enough the distant pulsing kicks were the only compass they needed.

Back at it again, Bristol's Banoffee Pies Records share the 13th release in their original series, this time in the form of a V/A called Common Ground. Bringing together four artists, including Interplanetary Criminal, Sourpuss, Hartta and our pick from one of Space Cadets, Lisene, the release is comprises on a batch of 150bpm+ cuts that tip the hat to their formative inspirations and early musical journeys. Split into two different moods of liquidity, each side moves through influences in Drum & Bass, Jungle, Liquid and UKG, harking back to the UK's early rave days.

Hessle Audio welcome @laksauk to the label with three tracks of rowdy and forward-thinking dance music, following his last release on Timedance in September.

On the A-side, ‘Fire Kit’ sees the London-based producer and DJ approaching his sound from a different direction, with dancehall infused percussion offset by enveloping layers of sub-bass warmth at 95bpm. The B side jacks up the tempo with a raucous energy as the temperature drops to below freezing. Basslines rumble in ‘Belly Brocka’ and ‘T’s Tent’ like an approaching storm and snares lash through the mix like ice picks, with the broken rhythmic energy driving the dance forward in 2021 and beyond.

Running the club night and monthly NTS show ‘re:lax’ with re:ni, Laksa has been consistently pushing bass mutations since his early EPs on Beneath’s Mistry label. A Bristol bass bobbler at heart, his hybrid sound has found a home on many respected labels such as Timedance, Ilian Tape and Whities, cementing his place amongst the latest UK talent.
