Noobs In Combat Soundtrack

Although a few weeks behind, I was inspired to start this project to enter more deeply and fully into the season of Advent. 

It’s an ancient tradition marked with much symbolism, especially in the liturgical setting. The first week of Advent is marked as the week of prophecy, and on the Advent wreath, the first week’s candle is often called the prophecy candle, and symbolizes hope. We look to the Book of Isaiah and his prophecies of the coming Messiah as the first glimmer of this hope in our fallen world, darkened by our sins and transgressions. We had separated ourselves from God to the point we were nothing but lost, frightened sheep bleating in the barren wilderness for a shepherd. But these earliest prophecies are like small flames which illuminated the distant path to Christ; they gave hope to countless generations before His coming. 

Advent is a season of hopeful waiting and anticipation. It’s a solemn time, though, because we are to recall what life was a part from God. Jesus is the redeemer of our souls; he truly is the light of the world, and dispels every darkness.  But have we made room for him to dwell in our hearts? 

Here is a short Advent meditation to help you enter into this sacred season of hopeful anticipation of the coming of Christ our Lord: 

“The deeper sense of Advent is that we scrutinize the center [of ourselves]—reminding us that Advent is a season of repentance—a spiritual housecleaning for the coming of Christ. It’s a deliberate time in which we examine our relationship with God, our behavior towards others, our inner attitudes, dispositions, and desires. It is uncomfortable—and even frightening—to look within ourselves; we don’t know what we will find. But doing so will set us free. There is no need to examine ourselves with dread. Instead, we can ask Jesus Himself to help us, and bury ourselves in His embrace, for Advent is a “personal journey toward a meeting and dialogue with God.”
