Dap Kings' Electro-Sax Space Warrior returns with this groove-heavy sequel - an expressive, transcendental journey through the archive of his Indigenous roots and beyond.

Drawing on ancestral memories and family histories to wrap new flesh around the bones of history, this album is a bold, semi-autobiographical work that leads us deeper into the annals of family histories, mythology, and the cultural imaginary.

Leading a 7-piece ensemble composed of New York’s top percussionists and members of Daptone’s rhythm section, Cochemea has created his own world of emotional textures and rhythmic possibilities, a musical and spiritual synthesis made possible through his deep reverence of the horn and the music and traditions preceding him. Vol II: Baca Sewa - is an offering and continuation of Cochemea’s explorations, part of a musical process of cultural reclamation and healing through connection, relations, memory and imagination.

A designer, producer and DJ, south Londoner Hector Plimmer is quite the jack of all trades, and has been making some considerable waves over the past year with his jazz and hip-hop inflected electronica.

After racking up an appearance on the most recent Brownswood Bubblers compilation (Gilles Peterson is a big fan), he recently proved his burgeoning talent when he was selected as the winner of the PRS Steve Reid InNOVAtion Award.

Following on from his recent Eastern System EP, released last year via rising London label Albert's Favourites, we're happy to premiere his debut album Sunshine, which is released on the same imprint this week.

Cuban big band Orquesta Akokán returns with 16 Rayos on Daptone Records, a triumphant follow up to their Grammy nominated debut from 2018. Led by dynamic singer José "Pepito" Gómez, producer Jacob Plasse and arranger Michael Eckroth, and fused with the “island’s greatest instrumentalists'' (New York Times) from storied groups including Irakere, NG La Banda, and Los Van Van, the band united in Havana once again to record at Egrem Studios. 

The cohesion forged by several years of international touring (including stops at Lincoln Center, WOMAD Australia and New Zealand, North Sea Jazz Festival, Festival Salsa al Parque, Kennedy Center and many more) blossomed into an intimate dialogue between good friends, allowing for fearless musical exploration, risk-taking, development and expression. Contemporary sensibilities, mixed with a deep spiritual reservoir and knowledge of folkloric traditions, propel the grooves into previously uncharted vistas while dismantling the conventions of what is considered mambo.

The band will return to the road for world-wide touring in Spring of 2022.
