Last Man Standing markerar en viktig fas i The Grand Stations utveckling som band. Där Nothing Seems Real hade en mer drömsk och sökande ton, bär Last Man Standing på ett rakare, tyngre och mer självsäkert uttryck. Albumet andas både livekänsla och bandets kärlek till klassisk rock med en modern touch.

Musikaliskt hörs influenser från 70-talets jamrock, 90-talets grunge och alternativrockens känslomässiga tyngd. Gitarrerna är framträdande, ofta med både riff och melodiska slingor, medan bas och trummor skapar en solid grund som driver låtarna framåt.

Textmässigt kretsar albumet kring teman som motstånd, envishet och känslan av att stå upp för sig själv när världen runtomkring förändras. Titeln Last Man Standing blir en metafor för uthållighet och integritet, men också för ensamheten i att inte ge efter.

Skivan innehåller både raka rocklåtar med högt tempo och mer stämningsfulla spår med plats för dynamik och eftertanke. På så sätt blir Last Man Standing en sammanhållen men ändå varierad resa genom The Grand Stations musikaliska landskap.

We're delighted to be teaming up with long-time AIH pal Gorgeous Bully as well as relative newcomers Something Anorak, for a four track split 7" due for release 26th June.

The two bands met whilst both living and playing in Cornwall in early 2011 and bonded over a shared love of boisterous lo-fi music. In the five years since, Something Anorak, consisting of cousins James and Chris Barrett, moved to Bristol; released an album on Howling Owl and split time writing music between working as a plumber and a postman. Meanwhile, Gorgeous Bully's Thomas Crang moved to Manchester and with no such restrictions on his time, has spent 5 years of unemployment ascending the stairs of bedroom-pop stardom whilst sharing a steady stream of songs that are "ugly and bummed and uncomfortable in all the right ways.

The split features two tracks from each band and is set to be released as a cherry red 7" record on June 26th.

Celebrating Light In The Attic's 10 year anniversary in 2012, we are releasing a series of very special colored vinyl 7"s and digital downloads. The series features contemporary artists covering a track reissued by Light In The Attic on the A-side, plus the original version on the B-side.

Second in the series we have Alex Maas of the Black Angels, Erika Wennerstrom / Jesse Ebaugh of Heartless Bastards, and Robb Kidd (under the band name Sweet Tea) covering Wendy Rene's 'After Laughter Comes Tears'. Preserving the original song's creepy organ and tortured soul, Sweet Tea adds deep dub bass and raw power. Wendy Rene's original -- beloved of Wu Tang Clan, who sampled it on 'Tearz' -- was one of a handful of timeless soul songs she recorded with The Drapels and solo for Stax before retiring prematurely to raise a family.

A side is produced by Alex Maas / Brett Orrison and recorded at Out The Woodwork Studios, Austin, TX, July 2012. B side features the original Wendy Rene version as remastered by John Baldwin for our anthology of her work, "After Laughter Comes Tears: Complete Stax & Volt Singles + Rarities 1964-1965".

A side is produced by Alex Maas / Brett Orrison and recorded at Out The Woodwork Studios, Austin, TX, July 2012. B side features the original Wendy Rene version as remastered by John Baldwin for our anthology.
