born out of frustration, "a vogue for freedom"  is a vocal performance piece that situates black gay/queer/trans*/gnc bodies at the center of movement making while also contemplating/imagining new/otherwise worlds (sans police) through performance. politicizing the house ballroom chant, it constitutes a new form of prose placing civil rights freedom songs, protest chants, and negro spirituals over "the ha dub rewerk'd" by dj mike q. in the spirit of house-ballroom commentators, "a vogue for freedom" invites the audience to a new kind of protest -- one that calls for the 'kidz' to 'carry', dance, and celebrate fiercely. 

further, it serves as an embodied critique of the ways in which traditional approaches to demonstrations, protests, and critical thought are respectable, ableist and queer/trans-phobic. It's a track for the kidz, for allah my comrades out in the streets marching and protesting all over the united states, for the vogue divas, for the folks who are fed up, for the folks who are looking for a way to creatively release their anger and rage in response to black death and genocide, and police brutality.

this, too, is a meditation for black lives. it is an invitation to dance and celebrate black lives and a nod to allah the freedom fighters -- past and present.

Roaches, the second release on Loveless Records new club imprint Materia, is a collaborative EP between Rozay LaBeija and Celestral Trax, and is a call to arms for femininity and sisterhood; the battle for powerful expression amidst social constructs. With special guest verses from the likes of Dai Burger and Keijaun Thomas, the new EP represents the future of hip-hop. The aggressive anthems pair Rozay's ferocious ballroom-inflected vocals with the complex beats of Brooklyn-based Celestrial Trax. "It's a prison pipeline, gotta beat the odds / I made it past twenty one, n*gga I'm a God," Rozay chants in solidarity, empowering his sisters who are fighting to stay alive.

“This Cd was birthed out of a whole lot of rejection, Creative Vision and a Sense of overcoming in the Ballroom scene”. Having been influenced by Legendary Commentator’s like Kevin JZ Prodigy, Selvin Khan & Iconic Jack Mizrahi, I was encouraged to utilize my love for dance and rapping to cultivate ballroom music which emulates this current ballroom generation. Never really feel like I belonged anywhere, always felt like an outcast however looking back at 12 yrs commentating balls without a legendary status from Akron & Dayton, OH, San Francisco, CA, my hometown Detroit, MI & now Seattle, WA, I’d say I’ve come along way past the young novice commentating in rooms and making my friends feel it back in 2008.  Four albums under my belt, “The GQ Files: The Cunt Collection” (2008), “LeGz WiDe Open, Pu22y OWT!!!” (2010), B*^chez Can’t Take Vol. 1” (2016) & now “UnCommon Commentator (2019), I do this for Detroit, MI and every Under Dog who has NOT been always been received on a major scale and fought their way through adversity, girlfriend panels and conflicting politics within the Ballroom scene. Major Love & Shoutouts go to my Ballroom producers who created beats used on this project, DJ Spiider, DJ Angel X, Pillzbury of GalactickBassMusic, DJ MikeQ & DJ VJ.
