Enrique Jiménez, aka Big Pack, es el dueño del sello House Salad Music. Descubrió su amor por la música electrónica a mediados de los 90's cuando asistía a fiestas de house y techno con DJ locales. Well I had the upmost honour of being asked to replace Chicago legend J-Dub for the Classics festival, held in Halifax every July.  Being a Canadian house music DJ, I have always been inspired by the event and the tight knit house community in Nova Scotia, so being asked to be on a lineup that includes Inland Knights, Natural Rhythm, J Paul Ghetto and more was definitely a highlight of my DJ career to date.

The one-hour show format chosen to allow enough time for the artist’s essence to shine through and for you, our Traxsource family to get a flavor of their sound, label and general vibe. Once a week. Juan Mejia is a Miami based DJ & Producer, has achieved a solid reputation in the east coast music scene for the past two decades for his unique brand of Club dance music. .
Juan in 1995 moved to Orlando to attend Full Sail of the Recording Arts where he got his Audio Engineering degree .While he was in school he discovered his true calling was in the DJ world .
His passion for music landed him a residency at the top club in Orlando called “Firestone” where he had the chance to spin with greats such as Josh Wink, Sasha and John Digweed.
Juan was also invited to play in the first Zen festivals in Orlando and at Simons Club in Gainesville FL, which introduced him to all kinds of electronic music and a true feel for the underground scene.
This was the time when DJ’s played records and there were no cd players. As well Juan played the first two Ultra Festivals as after that it became way too commercial.
Once Firestone headed in a new direction Juan was determined to move back to Miami ,and in no time he had residencies at Groove Jet , Mansion(Level), Opium ,and Crobar.
He was at Crobar from 2000 to 2004 where he became well known for his versatility of Music styles.
Spinning at Crobar gave Mejia the opportunity to become involved in the Deep House movement that was happening at the time.
He started to experiment with the sound and found himself playing all over the country in places like San Francisco , Chicago , New and New York .
Also touring and opening for such greats as Erik Morillo , Josh Wink & Little Louie Vega during the Heineken Tours of the famous Back Door Bamby Parties.
Deep House was his true calling. In 2003, after a great run at Crobar, Juan decided to start his own record label “DUTCHIE MUSIC In the last 12 Years and more than 200 releases worldwide.

Dutchie Music has become a prominent underground label with Mejia’s A&R Work. Artists such As Joeski, Pete Moss , Timewriter , Stryke , Joshua Iz , Soul Minority ,Danny Daze and many others have recorded with Dutchie Music.

Juan as well has residencies in Miami where he dj’s at the W Hotel , LIV Nightclub , and the Edition on a regular basis.

We have a very special release for Volume 149, as we head all the way to New Zealand to feature one of our biggest supporters over the years, and one funky dude who lives and breathes house music, Artie Ward!  Artie has been a staunch supporter of the underground house music scene, and after asking him for years, we finally have the opportunity to return the favor and feature him!

BIO

From the old school of originally 2 Omnitronic DD2250 turntables and DJM300 mixer to Technics SL1210 Mk5s to CDJ50s then to the classic CDJ1000MK3's and DJM800 I now roll with a Pioneer DDJ controller. Heavily influenced by Funky/Jackin/Soul House and the likes of Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, Carl Cox, Andy Riley & Inland Knights. I stay true to my likes and share as much to all as I can...I try to get out and DJ live sets whenever I can in and around Auckland, New Zealand. House Salad Music/Keeping it underground....

Playing other peoples music for other peoples enjoyment since 1993.

Darius is a self proclaimed "House Addict".  He fell in love with the house sound as a teenager living in Montreal back in the early '90s when he would stay up late on Friday nights and record a dance mix show on Montreal radio.  He was hooked from then on.  He then proceeded to start mixing with one tape deck and a CD player and never looked back.  

When he moved to Vancouver in the late '90's, he started buying records almost daily and spent most of his free time at his favourite record stores at the time, Bassix and Mekanix records.  Over the next few years, Darius held various residencies and ran 2 club nights in Vancouver, playing alongside such talent as Lawnchair Generals and Johnny Fiasco, as well as playing at numerous after hours and raves.   After getting tired of both the late nights and politics in the scene, he decided it was time to hang up the headphones in the early 2000s, but the love of house music still burned inside of him as the years passed. 

In 2013 he decided he wanted to get back into DJ'ing and purchased a basic Pioneer controller and started to collect digital tracks again.  Over the past few years Darius has been busy making a name for himself in the underground scene with numerous guest mix appearances around the world on such labels as House Salad, Reason2Funk, Uglyhouse, Little Routine, Selecta Music, Leven Underground and House Jet Radio just to name a few.  He also started the very popular "SPEED BUMPS" mix series which showcases his love for hip hop and jazz as he shows his versatility as a DJ by blending mixes of nu jazz, hip hop instrumentals and acid jazz flavours reminiscent of Mark Farina's legendary series, Mushroom Jazz. 

He also launched the hugely successful "Soul Room Sessions" podcast showcasing the soulful and jazzy side of house music and downtempo beats with guest mixes from some of the biggest names in the game and the series is still going strong!

In 2017 Darius got his first taste of out of town gigging playing live shows all over the West Coast from his hometown in Vancouver, to San Francisco and Oakland.  Stay tuned for much more from him in the near future!
