I have always been a huge fan of underground hip hop and mushroom jazz, and after many years as a house DJ I have finally gotten a small collection of jams and am proud to present my first mix of all downtempo/mushroom jazz and hip hop tracks.  This mix was done on the fly with no arranging before hand so the transitions aren't perfect, but practice makes perfect!  Hope you all enjoy!

J Dilla Instrumentals Mixtape “jamestrumentals”

For the 5th time now, Nemoy managed to convince actual musicians to release something on his largely unsuccessful label. And oh boy, are those some actual musicians this time! Marlow and his partner in crime Rainer Trüby came up with a lush, deep house stomper featuring a little vocal shred we all think we know – but we really don’t! They are not so much into the obvious sample digs… Combined with some crazy hi hat work and all the minor 9th chords you can possibly handle, „U Know How I Feel“ makes you feel like they really do know, how you feel. Azaxx took all this and turned it into something completely different. To be honest, he might just have created an entirely new genre of soulful electronic dance music. Outstanding drum programming and the exact right amount of „when is that beat coming back again?!“ make his remix a very unique ride. Nemoy made a version too. He challenged himself to use the cheapest, most unintuitive and terrible synth you can imagine for this. And he made it sound like a Million Dollar. The shuffle on this one is a very weird animal – but also a very fluffy one. Go get it, before the others do! There are only 200 copies around!

When Diamond reached out to us with a raw demo of "Target Blue" we couldn’t get the melody out of our heads for days. The track instantly put a smile on our face and with Alex Wilson's sax lines it spreads an enormous energy which made us feel as if we were 20 again. Later Diamond came up with "Pen Burns The Paper" and "You Like Jazz?" which built an awesome fundament for an artist EP. There couldn't be a better title than "You Like Jazz? EP" as it reflects the personality of the producer - Diamond, who has a kind of obsession with Jazz but at the same time is not too serious about it. We also welcome our dear friend Tour-Maubourg to the label. His breakient mix of "Target Blue" is a brilliant example of where inspiration can lead you if you just let it go. His talent for creating emotions is outstanding. Daria Salin adapted the power of Diamonds music in her painting. We are happy and proud to serve you Salin008 "Diamond - You Like Jazz? Playing other peoples music for other peoples enjoyment since 1993.

Darius is a self proclaimed "House Addict".  He fell in love with the house sound as a teenager living in Montreal back in the early '90s when he would stay up late on Friday nights and record a dance mix show on Montreal radio.  He was hooked from then on.  He then proceeded to start mixing with one tape deck and a CD player and never looked back.  

When he moved to Vancouver in the late '90's, he started buying records almost daily and spent most of his free time at his favourite record stores at the time, Bassix and Mekanix records.  Over the next few years, Darius held various residencies and ran 2 club nights in Vancouver, playing alongside such talent as Lawnchair Generals and Johnny Fiasco, as well as playing at numerous after hours and raves.   After getting tired of both the late nights and politics in the scene, he decided it was time to hang up the headphones in the early 2000s, but the love of house music still burned inside of him as the years passed. 

In 2013 he decided he wanted to get back into DJ'ing and purchased a basic Pioneer controller and started to collect digital tracks again.  Over the past few years Darius has been busy making a name for himself in the underground scene with numerous guest mix appearances around the world on such labels as House Salad, Reason2Funk, Uglyhouse, Little Routine, Selecta Music, Leven Underground and House Jet Radio just to name a few.  He also started the very popular "SPEED BUMPS" mix series which showcases his love for hip hop and jazz as he shows his versatility as a DJ by blending mixes of nu jazz, hip hop instrumentals and acid jazz flavours reminiscent of Mark Farina's legendary series, Mushroom Jazz. 

He also launched the hugely successful "Soul Room Sessions" podcast showcasing the soulful and jazzy side of house music and downtempo beats with guest mixes from some of the biggest names in the game and the series is still going strong!

In 2017 Darius got his first taste of out of town gigging playing live shows all over the West Coast from his hometown in Vancouver, to San Francisco and Oakland.  Stay tuned for much more from him in the near future!
