Whats shakin funky people?!  We are back with Volume 186 of the series, and we are thrilled to welcome THREENEONTREES to Soul Room Sessions!

Three Neon Trees (or Adam as his mum calls him) is self-confessed house music maniac. In his own words: “All other forms of music were just precursors to house. When house was formed, music reached its apex, the promised land. There is nothing more after this, just house”.

Adam was a face on the Manchester, UK underground scene during the late 90’s and early 00's, DJing and promoting nights, championing quality underground house, playing alongside some of the greats. Then when the UK club scene dies in the early 00’s, he had to make some difficult decisions and life took over.

But the passion never left him. After nearly two decades he couldn't resist the yearning for those four to the floor beats. So be bought himself some gear, dusted off his records and is now finding his way back into the scene.

He tends to lean toward the Jackin Chicago house style, occasionally mixing it up with other genres, but always maintaining an underground feel, without straying too far into the subterranean - "House music was invented for dancing to not listening to!" is his mantra and he likes to keep it fun, always experimenting with the art of the mix, utilising and embracing all available technology, combining old vinyl favourites with new digital gems.

Our first feature of the year features a man who rapidly making a name for himself in the underground scene, Rich Emby from Normandy, France!

Rich Emby is a DJ originally from Leicester in th UK but now living in a sleepy part of France. He dabbled in the local Leicester scene some years a go but with more emphasis on the party side of things rather than pushing to great heights. This time around was brought on like a lot of other DJs through the covid pandemic as a way to keep his sanity. 

The Deeply Jacked series on Mixcloud (coming to Soundcloud in 2023) was started in that time and has morphed it's way into what it is today. He now works with other like minded DJs supporting the artists that they admire, bouncing ideas and digging deep into the box to find those forgotten gems. Underground house never really dies so giving these tunes a new lease of life is what drives him as well as spending countless hours discovering the new ones. It has become a big part of his life and is driven through his passion for the music. 

As the series suggests his style is just that, Deep & Jackin house music influenced by Jazz, hip hop, soul and funk but also those squelchy acid sounds and old school Chicago house feel. What ever he plays he always tries to bring energy and an unpredictability to his mixes.

Darius Kramer Presents - StreetBeatz (FREE D/L)

What's shakin funky people?!?  We are back with Volume 196 of the series, and we are thrilled to present our next downtempo mix by the super talented Aaron French from Sacramento, California!

Born in Fremont, Ca.  Raised in Sacramento, Ca.  DJ Aaron French re-awoke as a DJ after attending MF50 in 2019.  Prior, Aaron was a house party DJ living downtown Sacramento in the mid 00’s on the same block as The Press Club (P Street).  Before this, Aaron became an admirer of House music in 1997 after listening to a few prominent DJ sets in the United DJs of America compilation.  He spent the next 8 years listening to hundreds of different sets, learning some of techniques from those DJs.  Since, most of the beats Aaron jammed to back then were CD album mixes bought in stores like Tower Records and Virgin Megastore, he found himself branching out a tad and also listening to what the Global Underground DJs were also doing.  So dance music became dope, instead something to be made fun of like in junior high (remember The Grind on MTV?  We made fun of that. 😬).  

Then there is Mushroom Jazz.  Aaron became a HUGE fan after #2 dropped.  Was already a fan of East Coast rap so to Aaron MJ was a super unique application of instrumental hip hop and downtempo beats.  Aaron played the heck out of those mix albums in his car and many other places.  In fact, in March of 2005 when MJ5 was released, Aaron grabbed a copy right away from the downtown Sacramento Tower Records and brought it to a sizable birthday party (80+ people) of a long time friend of his.  At the party, music was playing, but it was pop.  The MJ5 disk was then gracefully placed into the sound system there, and 🚀.  The party erupted.  Right then it was decided that Aaron had to do something to start mixing beats on his own.

Unfortunately, Aaron never broke into the club scene as a club DJ, but he is here now

Exotic_Duo (Kgopotso Shongwe) & (Mxova_dj)
Duo based in South Africa who grew up together, deeply in love with house music from an early age. Mostly inspired by deep house, soulful house, funk/disco and electronic music. They decided to work together since they are both inspired by the same sound. Exotic Duo was formed mid-2007 when they saw a gap in the industry of making music, they started playing at Parties, weddings and events. Their inspiration came from both local and international DJ’s.
In 2009 they decided to move to music production and have managed to work with a few artists. In 2014 they released their first EP called "Rooted In Me" on Podomatic which was appreciated by a lot of people.
In 2017 they signed with The Hiive Media, a multimedia company based in Johannesburg (South Africa) and have been busy on a couple of projects in different fields apart from music. In 2018 they worked on a podcast 45BEEHIIVECAST under The Hiive Media which is available on Podomatic, Spotify and iTunes. They have managed to play live sets which are available on YouTube in different venues and giving people
that different sound and vibe.
In 2019 they realized their second EP "The Other Side" under Lisztomania Records from Russia.

What's shakin' funky people?! We are back with Volume 201 of the series and we are proud to present a veteran of the Los Angeles house scene, DJ Suave!

Dj Suave is a 37 year veteran dj from Los Angeles with no signs of slowing down. He started djing in 1985 and was heavily influenced by the mix masters on 1580 KDAY ( L.A.'s first Hip Hop station )  which included djs from The World Class Wreckin Crew & Jamin Gemini.

 

He was introduced to House music in 1987 by a friend that had a mix tape by the Legendary New York Dj Larry Levan. Since that day Dj Suave fell in love with House music and has never looked back!

Hailing from West Covina, ( a suburb of Los Angeles ) Dj Suave noticeably stood out from the rest of his dj peers through out the S.G.V. & I.E ( counties of the greater Los Angeles area ). Due to his Underground education, while all the other djs were playing “Hard House” & Top 40, Dj Suave stayed true to himself and kept on pushing Underground House music. And that caught the attention of radio host from Power 106  Richard Vission. Dj Suave was asked to be a regular on Powertools, ( a mix show on Power 106 ) making him not the first dj to play underground Deep House, but he was the first regular dj on Powertools to play Deep Underground House Music. Suave was a regular on Powertools from 1994 – 2007.

Dj Suave is one of the most versatile djs around. From Latin, Funk, Afro-Beat, Disco, Latin Jazz, Bosa, D&B, Soul, Deep House, House, Tech House & Techno. With over 17K records, Dj Suave still plays vinyl as much as he can. Producing the “Estereo” parties, which featured an all vinyl classic house night.

Whats shakin funky people?!  We are back with Volume 203 of the series and for this episode we head to the West Coast to feature one of California's veteran selectors, SteveO!

Steve-O AKA Steve Solorio is a Northern California Native hailing from Sacramento. He began his musical journey into House Music in 1991 when he stumbled into the Magical Rave Scene of early San Fransico. He purchased his first set of turntables in 1997 and has been on a quest to move dancefloors ever since. Sean Dexter has been a DJ since the mid 80’s and has played in the USA and Canada. BayAreaBeatbox was Founded in 2011 by Sean Dexter on Pure Radio Holland and is currently on Underground Kollektive Radio as a 3 hour show that has featured guests from around the world like Paul Johnson, James Curd, DJ Vivona, David Duriez, Jay Tripwire and many others. In 2020 BayAreaBeatbox Live was launched on Mixcloud doing live broadcasts and in 2021 BayAreaBeatbox live started a monthly residency on the legendary underground station Fantasy FM in the UK. Beatbox Records was Launched in 2016 featuring productions from Sean Dexter. Along with his own label Sean has produced tracks and remixed artists on Selekta, Plusquam, Red Robot, Oh That’s Good Music Villa65, SoulJack Digital, and the famed Deepen Sound in Vancouver Canada. Sean’s music has been remixed by Jay Tripwire, Vernon Douglas, George JJ Flores, Sen-Sei , Jason Merle, Henry Navarroandothers. What's shakin' funky people?!  We are back with Volume 207 of the series and we are thrilled to welcome a man who has been on fire lately with numerous heater releases, hailing from Fresno, California, we welcome Jason Merle to SRS!!

Hailing from The Tower District in Fresno CA, Jason Merle has been playing records since 1997. After
moving to the Bay Area to swim with the big fish, he began to produce and play with some of the incredible
DJ’s that saturate the scene in San Francisco and eventually moved back to Fresno where he continued his
rise until 2008.
Fast forward a decade after concentrating on fatherhood and he is back at it. Producing tracks and starting his
own label 4E&A Records, he is focused and passionate about learning and improving in the studio and playing
tracks that honor the past and create visions of the future. He may be a little less intoxicated this time around,
but he is just as dizzy in love with house as he was back in the day.

I have always been a huge fan of underground hip hop and mushroom jazz, and after many years as a house DJ I have finally gotten a small collection of jams and am proud to present my first mix of all downtempo/mushroom jazz and hip hop tracks.  This mix was done on the fly with no arranging before hand so the transitions aren't perfect, but practice makes perfect!  Hope you all enjoy!

The Jackin House genre is basically owned by this gentleman and he has been releasing hit after hit over the past few years.   Unless you have been living under a rock, you all know the name ANGELO FERRERI!

He was voted the #1 Jackin House Artist of 2017 by Traxsource and  It’s pretty safe to say that nearly every house music DJ had an Angelo Ferreri joint on repeat in 2017.

The Italian producer first started making beats on his Playstation at the age of 12, and year after year his polished productions have caught the ear of tastemakers across the globe.

His labels MONOSIDE and Mood Funk Records have been a consistent source of some of the best house music in the scene during 2017, with releases from the likes of David Penn, DJ Mes, Re-Tide, Hatiras, Moon Rocket, Jay Vegas, Alessio Cala', Danny Cruz, Mark Funk to name but a few.

He has that innate ability to create tracks where you instantly know who’s at the controls from the first beat. You’d be hard pushed to find a more prolific and hardworking producer in the house music scene at the moment, and that’s why it wasn’t a hard decision to name Angelo Ferreri the Number One Jackin House Artist of 2017.

He was a Guest DJ in United States, Holland, Ukraine, Canada, Mexico, Germany, Croatia, Italy, Africa, Spain, Malta.

Much can be said about Agent 818 (Nohe Gomez) as an extraordinary artist. A seasoned DJ, together as an innovative producer is what makes Agent 818 an immense MUST hear talent. Born and raised in Southern California, he found his passion for DJ’ing at age 15, and has been committed since. As a recording engineer student at the University of California Los Angeles, he evolved as an artist with a taste for creative exploration. Agent 818 is credited with a broad range of projects, ranging from sound design to scoring for film. His ventures have proved him to be dynamic as a diverse artist. Behind his drive is an ongoing passion for stepping behind the decks. “To me, spinning can be as creative as producing & remixing, DJ’ing is part of what draws me into making music” he says. Playing other peoples music for other peoples enjoyment since 1993.

Darius is a self proclaimed "House Addict".  He fell in love with the house sound as a teenager living in Montreal back in the early '90s when he would stay up late on Friday nights and record a dance mix show on Montreal radio.  He was hooked from then on.  He then proceeded to start mixing with one tape deck and a CD player and never looked back.  

When he moved to Vancouver in the late '90's, he started buying records almost daily and spent most of his free time at his favourite record stores at the time, Bassix and Mekanix records.  Over the next few years, Darius held various residencies and ran 2 club nights in Vancouver, playing alongside such talent as Lawnchair Generals and Johnny Fiasco, as well as playing at numerous after hours and raves.   After getting tired of both the late nights and politics in the scene, he decided it was time to hang up the headphones in the early 2000s, but the love of house music still burned inside of him as the years passed. 

In 2013 he decided he wanted to get back into DJ'ing and purchased a basic Pioneer controller and started to collect digital tracks again.  Over the past few years Darius has been busy making a name for himself in the underground scene with numerous guest mix appearances around the world on such labels as House Salad, Reason2Funk, Uglyhouse, Little Routine, Selecta Music, Leven Underground and House Jet Radio just to name a few.  He also started the very popular "SPEED BUMPS" mix series which showcases his love for hip hop and jazz as he shows his versatility as a DJ by blending mixes of nu jazz, hip hop instrumentals and acid jazz flavours reminiscent of Mark Farina's legendary series, Mushroom Jazz. 

He also launched the hugely successful "Soul Room Sessions" podcast showcasing the soulful and jazzy side of house music and downtempo beats with guest mixes from some of the biggest names in the game and the series is still going strong!

In 2017 Darius got his first taste of out of town gigging playing live shows all over the West Coast from his hometown in Vancouver, to San Francisco and Oakland.  Stay tuned for much more from him in the near future!
