Forbidden Fruit Recordings founder Dark Room Robot makes music for dark, sweaty clubs. He rattles bass bins as he cooks up high-tempo weapons that have won him plenty of props from tastemakers like TSHA and Sarah Story, who have both supported on BBC Radio 1. On top of this, the man who is also half of S.N.U.S. has had tracks make their way into record bags belonging to DJs like Anja Schneider, Skream, Paul Woolford and Jamie Jones.

This latest essential volume kicks oﬀ with ‘Rhythmic Touch’, a masterful bit of drum programming with elastic bass and busy piano stabs that bring colour to the hefty low end. The fantastic ’Drop That Beat’ is another full fat-tune with muscular beats and raw, frazzled synths that pump up the energy. They bring a rave edge next to old-school vocals as the well-swung drums bounce on. Last but not least is ‘Work’, a corrugated rhythm with woodpecker-style hits, infectious vocal chops and strobe-lit retro stabs that will get hands in the air.

PREMIERE: Dark Room Robot - Drop That Beat [Forbidden Fruit Recordings]

I loved Jungle and DnB since I was a teenager. After a long journey through House and Techno I had a surprising b2b set with the godfather of DnB - Sir Goldie, about 8-9 years ago. We almost didn't played any electronic music that night, but the meeting inspired me to start digging bass music again. As I’m expected to play house and techno on my shows - with such and open format as Upperberry. I saw the chance to show my other passion. There is no deep philosophy behind this mix, just music I dance to, sometimes with hands in the air, sometimes eyes closed.
