DSoS Synth Jams

Just a simple ambient jam with my Roland Juno-Di done last year, and a video I created to present it. Nothing fancy but I love this often underrated synth.
 The audio was recorded via my Behringer Xenyx UFX 1604 mixer/audio interface into Ardour on Linux, where it was also mixed and mastered.

Electronica Dorian Jam - Synth Jam #3

A quick electronica-style jam with software synths recorded back on 24th June 2017. It is a screen recording, so do not expect high quality sound or anything fancy - just some improvisation using the nice Carla plugin host by the KXStudio develpers - which allows to use both Linux and Windows plugins without a DAW.

Quick, totally unprepared syntwave jam with Arturia Minibrute, Korg Volca Bass, Sample & FM, with Behringer Xenyx UFX 1604 and
Yamaha MG10XU as mixers, and the Behringer also as hard drive recorder. Finalized on Ardour.

Another hardware jam loosely inspired by a Rick Beato's video on chord substitutions in pop music (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-uvwT9zC_A), and the famous MU chord.

So, I picked up my Roland Juno-Di, chose a nice ambient guitar performance, fired up the arpeggiator, connected the synth via MIDI to my lovely Yamaha QY100, chose some nice pads, pluck and dreamy piano sounds to get along with the Juno's sounds and went to town ;)

Recorded on a Behringer Xenyx UFX 1604 and finalized in Audacity.

A synth jam almost one year old. I love Vangelis' music, such an inspiration. Especially, his epic, majestic atmospheres. Since Arminator is a great free plugin inspired by the great Greek composer and his Yamaha CS-80, I decided to try and play something that vaguely resembles his style.

Just a small tribute to a larger than life artist.

After Vangelis' tribute, and given France has just won the World Cup, it is time to pay homage to another great star of electronic music - Jean Michelle Jarre.

An old-school synth jam loosely inspired by his evolving and catchy arpeggios, uplifiting vibes on a Roland CR-78 patch with Drumaxx.

Another synth jam from June 2017. Some noodling around in Carla with lots of nice plugins in a sort of Miami Vice, 80s style by the great Dutch synth hero Jan Hammer. Some good summer vibes in these hot days.

All the arpeggios are taken care of by instances of BlueARP and RandArp. 2 awesome free arp plugins.

TAL Bassline (emulation of an SH-101) and other TAL plugins for reverb, etc.

Arminator and the amazing Heat VST Synthesizer (great on Android and Windows or OS X) used for pads and leads.

Dexed is used as well for the FM sounds of the DX7.

Plugin host is our beloved Carla on Linux.

It has been a while since my last video. Sorry guys, but I've been busy working on songs, and other stuff. Follow me on Twitter, though. Posting quite regularly.

This is an uplifting jam from July 2017 wihch I did with my beloved synthesizer Roland Juno-Di - such an underrated synth. I'll be featuring it more often on my channel, including jams and tutorials. Great synth, super light, with lots of potential. I haven't tried the more recent DS version but it should be even better.

Working with the arpeggiator to create some evolving and uplifiting electronic music.

Software meets hardware in this long, evolving Berlin School jam. SynprezFM is a nice free app for Android (http://www.synprez.com/SynprezFM) that emulates a Yamaha DX7 You can load 2 sounds, it even has 2 arpeggiators and effect units. You can of course, load sysex files. Really an amazing app!

All sounds and effects come from the synths. The sound from the tablet with SynprezFM goes directly into the line input of the Juno, and then recorded together on a streo track. Only a high and low pass filter and a limiter were applied on the recording in Ardour.

I love many genres but rock and electronic music have a special place in my heart.

Why the name Dark Side of Synth? Because it’s cool and it sums up my fascination with the dark side and with synthesizers. Dark side not just as negative but also as obscure, unknown, unexplored...

Don’t worry, you won’t be finding only darksynth, heavy, scary and sad tunes and tones here but quite a wide range and lots of happy, upbeat things too. Again, it is just a name – not a mission statement set in stone forever.
