Kimbr - Flamethrower EP - Architecture Recordings - ARX102

Kimbr spent his 1990s youth banging drums in punk bands in Cheltenham. After being introduced to rave music in his late teens he found links between the quick tempos and blast beats of punk and the intricate breaks of dnb and jungle and relocated to Bristol to find out more about his new obsession. He was welcomed into the infamous Dissident collective and under the moniker Noisy Boy, began DJing on the Bristol warehouse party and club circuit, pushing amen driven, darkside techstep. Dissident put on their final epic party in 2010 but Kimbr continued DJing and in 2017 restarted his production journey. His tracks draw on influences from in and out of the dnb scene, bringing in the cinematic tension and dystopian aesthetic of science fiction, the swag of old skool hip hop and crushing basses reminiscent of guitar riffs, all contained within the recognisable sonics and structures of early 2000s drum and bass.

Omni Music welcomes the excellent Steppa Browne to the label. His first venture on Omni Music begins with Calm and Present, a string and piano led journey through chopped Apaches and sub bass stabs. The title track Pockets of Pleasure is up next with rolling synths and exquisitely edited breaks that generates a gradual ascent to musical heaven. Cold Breeze keeps the expertly edited break work and ups the ante, combining drumfunk-esque rhythms with guitar and soothing pads and strings. The EP ends on the darker tones of Creative Calamity where a mix of sweeping pads, ethereal piano and breakbeats merge together somewhere between the realms of darkness and light to bring this tour de force of beats to a close.

His  sound is rooted in cinematic tension, emotional grit, and relentless rhythm. His latest release, Seppuku, in June, is a striking embodiment of that ethos—an intense, atmospheric track that explores themes of honor, sacrifice, and rebirth through layered breaks and brooding textures. With roots in underground rave culture and a deep respect for the genre’s lineage, Dub Science brings a hybrid approach to his sets: part selector, part storyteller. Whether spinning deep rollers, neurofunk, or jungle-infused cuts, he curates each mix with intention—balancing raw intensity with hypnotic flow.
