Severed Heads are one of the longest surviving bands to emerge from the Australian post-punk independent music scene. They began in Sydney in 1979, incorporating elements of 'industrial' noise-generation, tape cutting & looping and electronic sound synthesis. As the project developed song-structures and vocals were employed in a more-or-less recognizable mutant electro pop style. After many line-up changes featuring Gary Bradbury and psychedelic guitarist Simon Knuckey, Severed Heads was the vehicle for composer Tom Ellard. 
By 1983 they released a C-60 cassette called “Since The Accident” that grabbed the attention of Ink Records, a subsidiary of Virgin in the UK.  Ellard added a throwaway track at the last minute to fill out the cassette, not wanting to leave an unseemly gap on a C60 tape. This track, “Dead Eyes Opened” was catchy enough to get a lot of airplay on the main non-commercial radio station in Sydney. The band was asked to make this song into a 12” single. For this extended version, Tom Ellard and producer Patrick Gibson went to M Squared studio and passed the multitrack through various EQ and delays. “Dead Eyes Opened” features lyrics from a radio program narrated by Edgar Lustgarten, a crime journalist from England. They reference an actual double murder case that occurred in 1924 calling to mind the gruesome imagery of Hannibal Lecter. The rhythms are made by a TR-808 drum machine and an SH-1 synthesizer. A KORG PolySix did the rising wafty sound and strings. The load solo was a Casiotone run through an Octaver foot pedal. On the B-side are two solo compositions “Bullet” and “Mount” that Ellard recorded at Terse Tapes in 1982. 
All songs are remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Housed in the original jacket featuring the iconic photograph of a girl with a painted face wrapped in some cloth by Juilee Pryor. Each copy includes a fold-out newsprint poster with a large photo of the band wearing Art Unit skull shirts on one side and liner notes and press clippings on the other. 30 years later Severed Heads are still paving the way for powerful imaginative challenging music far and wide.

In celebration of Pride Month, Kinga struts to Dark Entries with “Sexy Boy,” a steamy Canadian pop gem. Inspired by gender-bending pop stars of the 1980s like Boy George and Janet Jackson, a young Tomas Fussey aka Kinga ditched his “schoolboy appearance” to adopt an edgier, androgynous style. Immersed in Calgary nightlife, he became acquainted with sexy synthpop and disco songs like Madonna’s “Everybody,” Divine’s “Native Love,” and the Flirts’ “Passion” - songs which still linger in his mind. He began writing music: “It was 80s. Everyone was making a record. So I made one too.” In 1988 he teamed up with keyboardist Dan Madison and veteran producer Bob Gallo to make “Elevator Operator” and “Sexy Boy.” Kinga was surprised when the B-side “Sexy Boy” garnered substantial radio play from CFNY in Toronto. But he notes: “They saw the obvious... My physical appearance supported the lyrics.” In 1989, Amok Records backed a new “Late Night Dance Mix” version of “Sexy Boy.” Almost every part was re-recorded or remade, including Kinga’s vocals. The new version surprised Kinga with its slick production and moody atmosphere. Sales were disappointing, and Kinga stated “It was not the sound of the moment.” But these deeper house-inflected grooves feel like the sound of our current moment. This release of Sexy Boy includes five different mixes, including the original 7” mix, three versions from the 12”, and the previously unreleased “TV Mix”. Sexy Boy comes sleeved in a reproduction of the original artwork and includes an insert with liner notes and lyrics, as well as an 8x10 glossy press photo of the sexy boy himself.

Niklas Wandt is a percussionist, producer, DJ and radio host . He lives in Berlin, where his eclectic approach is heard most regularly basement club Sameheads - a lush sonic palette with a hypnotic, heavily percussive drive, from tripped out downtempo, Balearic and afrofunky cosmic sound (think Rimini 1995) to driving progressive and tribal house, trance, warped techno and warming tech house – high energy in smooth, long blends. The impeccable rhythmic feel is a reflection of Niklas’ musical roots in the world of drums - he has cut his teeth playing in hiphop, psychedelic rock and free jazz projects and has been part of a number of projects centered around Salon des Amateurs in Düsseldorf. A wide, open minded range of practices that still feed into his music today - at Salon he forged his musical bond to producer Jan Schulte aka Wolf Müller aka Bufiman. The pair released the acclaimed double LP "Instrumentalmusik von der Mitte der World" in 2018 via Growing Bin Records, whose blissful neo-Balearic sound still makes an impact today. Niklas can be also heard as part of the band Neuzeitliche Bodenbeläge (with records on the labels Themes for Great Cities, Bureau B and Lustpoderosa that became underground favorites) and in a duo with veteran producer Sascha Funke (two discs on Multi Culti, a third one on R.A.N.D. Muzik), plus on a string of releases for imprints such as Bureau B, Permanent Vacation, Animals Dancing, Neubau, Warning and Edizioni Mondo/Running Back. 
His various projects have taken him all across Europe (appearing at festivals like Nuits Sonores, Melt, Fusion, Garbicz, Unsound, Dancity), to China, Israel & Palestine, the US, Chile, Peru and Mexico. 

In February 2025, “Mineral House Vol. 1”, Niklas’ first collaborative EP with Amsterdam-based producer Retromigration, was released via the revered Berlin imprint Love on the Rocks.
A music journalist, critic and presenter by day, his features, portraits and reviews mostly on jazz and its many branches can be heard regularly on German public radio stations WDR 3, SWR Kultur and Deutschlandfunk. As a contributor to the latter station’s broadcast series “Deutschlandreise”, Niklas was awarded the Deutscher Jazzpreis in 2025.

Cold wave, minimal techno, electro abstract, avant- hard, hardcore techno, break core, IDM, EBM, Death Rock, punk Rock, New Wave,Dark Wave, Ambient, MiamiBootyBase, SpeedBase, Dub, RagaMuffin, Dubstep, Industrial, Noise, Experimental, world beat...did I forget anything?  Neophyte, for sure, and these are all my newly found treasures, that I have dug up from around the world.  One day I will produce some tracks again, until then, I will spend every minute listening to all the newly found gems!
