From 2001 to 2006 I lived Tokyo, drawn to Japan by films and music indelibly imprinted on my young mind. After a few years I gained a little proficiency in the language, mostly learned by hanging out with friends in Shimokitazawa and transcribing Nishioka Takashi and Happy End lyrics. I’m overdue for a trip back, but this gorgeous mix of Japanese private press acid folk compiled by Tyler Craft is taking me right there. Tyler has been collecting these fugitive, often hand-made releases for over a decade and last year co-founded the label First and Last to reissue these unjustly overlooked sounds, for the most part ignored in Japan as well. This mix combines a few deep cuts from his favorite artists with some intriguing new arrivals. Subarashi desu.

Next up at Edwin Music channel is Berlin-based producer and DJ @benediktfrey and his close friend @menqui with whom he co-runs the label R.i.O.

For EDWIN MUSIC CHANNEL, he joined forces with his friend Menqui, who is overseeing the administration for the R.i.O. label, is part of the Berlin-based Muting The Noise Record Store and Distribution crew, runs a radio show for Cashmere Radio and plays regular in all those small, but delicate Berlin bars and little dancefloor venues. Together they prepared an epic mix, created live and direct in Menqui’s living room, featuring all sorts of music from pop, Trip-Hop, and Hip-hop to free-tripping electronic grooves. "I love hip hop. I have been digging a lot of it because I like the beats and it’s fun to blend with trip hop and downtempo tracks. I also work for a record collectors, who has an incredible hip hop collection and we spend a lot of time listening to all these records. Beyond the beats, rhythm & lyrics, hip hop has an important piece in the history of music and the city I live in. I am grateful it exists.

This mix was recorded in Texas, in my bed room early January during the holiday season."
