Plastic Flowers is a Dream Pop band from London, UK, formed in late 2011 by multi-instrumentalist George Samaras. He has recorded two full length studio albums Evergreen (2014) and Heavenly (2016).

BBC described his music as "very ethereal soundscapes accompanied by warm vocals" while DIY Magazine labelled him as a "Greek wunderkind musician." After a prolonged period of writing and experimentation, his second full length album entitled "Heavenly" was released in April, and is now quickly followed up with the new single "Falling Off".

Une musique qui a perdu son propriétaire. Une cassette sans info. Un album sans nom.

« How To Create Sounds with ... »
En février 2016, Sylvia Tournerie, graphiste à l’origine de l’identité visuelle du label Delodio, a acheté une caisse de babioles dans un marché aux puces à Paris. Un bric-à-brac disparate incluant quelques cassettes qu’elle comptait casser et remodeler, pour une utilisation graphique. J’ai repéré au milieu de la caisse qu’une des cassettes portait l’inscription : « How To Create Sounds With Mono/Poly Korg C-10 », cassette de démonstration du Korg Mono/Poly, un synthé analogique fabriqué en 1981 et utilisé par Tangerine Dream, Vince Clark, The Orb ou 808 State. Dans cette caisse, il y avait aussi une autre cassette. Et si cette autre K7 mettait en pratique le Korg Mono/Poly ? Totale supposition de ma part, mais qui m’obséda assez pour que j’appelle François Marché, mon binôme au label, pour lui en parler. Rendez-vous pris au studio pour une écoute en duo. J’enclenche le magnéto. C’est beau. C’est fou. La musique que nous découvrons alors s’avère être tout simplement phénoménale. Variée, naïve, ludique, mystique, émouvante. Parfois secouée, jamais formatée. Des compositions synthétiques marquées par les sonorités de ce qui ressemble fortement aux premiers samplers.
Mais l’objet ne comporte aucune information. Pas de titre, pas de date... et par-dessus tout, pas d’auteur. Seule info « Sony HF-S 60 », un modèle de cassettes vierges fabriquées à partir de 1986 par la firme japonaise du même nom. La musique gravée sur cette bande date donc de 1986, ou après. C’est tout. Et encore, rien n’est sûr : c’est peut-être la copie d’un enregistrement antérieur... Bref : un vrai trésor musical. Mais aussi un vrai casse-tête, qui a bien pu enregistrer cette cassette ?
Pour essayer d’en savoir plus, je pars à la rencontre du brocanteur qui a vendu la cassette. Légèrement avare de son temps et de ses mots il m’explique qu’il a vidé un appartement, que la K7 faisait partie du barda évacué et que tout est revendu en lots.
Il croit que l’appartement appartenait à un réalisateur qui a fait des courts-métrages, des films, et puis un disque aussi peut-être. Et qu’il n’est pas très connu.
J’insiste.
« Mais pourquoi son appartement a-t-il été vidé ?
— Moi, j’demande pas. On m’dit de déblayer un lieu, je déblaye. Peut-être il a déménagé, il a pu être viré. Peut-être qu’il est simplement décédé. De toute façon, rien ne dit que cette cassette, c’est lui qui l’a enregistrée. Elle était juste là. C’est peut-être un ami, une connaissance, un cousin, une personne de passage qui lui a refilé ».
Après des mois de recherches, de consultations compulsives des cabinets Google & co, et après avoir questionné toutes mes connaissances dans le milieu du cinéma, rien. Impossible de trouver des infos sur ce gars. On est dans un Chandler. Ou chez Kafka. Un objet fantastique, une enquête foireuse. Des témoins borgnes, des embûches à chaque tournant, avec Delodio comme aventuriers de la K7 perdue. Et si la beauté de cet enregistrement, gravé sur cette Sony HF-S 60, n’était qu’un rêve, une utopie ? À vous de juger. Notre volonté première avec cette édition musicale est de rendre hommage à ses auteurs et interprètes, quels qu’ils soient et où qu’ils soient.
La musique que vous entendez sur ce disque est, à l’exception de quelques retouches techniques, identique à celle qui est sur cette cassette trouvée.

Jeremy Campbell and R. Zanzibar return as Out 2 with their debut full length, Showcase.  Following their recent Moving EP, the duo expand their mix of New York off-kilter pop lyrical poetics riding over percussive desk-dub funk grooves.  

After collaborating on releases for Lectric Sands and L.I.E.S (Zoovox and Locks & DDM) the Brooklyn team dug deep in the studio to create 6 vocals and their dub versions in a true ‘showcase’ style. 

With that, after its appearance in longer ‘discomix’ form, the album starts with the original version of Moving. Just under 3 minutes of hectic New York funk – chop guitar, punch bass and blasting horn jump ups.  Rolling straight to the Version, Campbell’s mixing desk skills let it all hang out and back.  Snares rattle, hats ride, bass in and out, a voice  rightly interjects “…are we moving?”

Sliding in to Dancing, the tryptamines start to flow and skip atop a steppas beat. The “raps”, dubs and fx weave their way in to your subconscious as electrons whirl in a warm psychedelic fuzz.  This is further exemplified in side closer, Pale Fens.  The improvised vocals fit seamlessly among the beats, bass and guitar haze.  As the skin, lips, eyes, pull you in, the Version takes it deep.  Sole guitar solo and the rest rides from the desk.  Perry, Bovell, Sherwood. The beauty in the space between is the essence of music itself. 

Side 2 starts with a crowning gem, Some Air’s Red There.  Flute rides a hook that is simplicity in its ingenuity.  Zanzibar in his wayward element… “she said I had the wrong rhythm?”  By now ears twisted to what the Version brings, the laidback vibes, with wind solo, drift to an Upstate/White Isle summer’s day that is long remembered. 

Don’t Stop comes on as a No NYC love paean.  Congas, rhythm guitar and impro’ lyrical flow, contorting bass, flange, flange, flange.  Run all day, we don’t stop.  Version just glides and glides.  Finally, to close, Run is the lazy finale dub (master)piece.  A simple Jammy’s style riddim; a midi-funk groove. It swings low alongside lyrical imaginings, encapsulating Out 2’s place in the New York firmament, where disco, punk, hip hop were and are very much fellows with the often overlooked, but amazing dub reggae that has been produced in the city for decades.
