Aboutface is firstly a composer/live performer and secondly a DJ, hailing from East London he steps up for the next release on Amirali’s newly founded imprint ‘Dark Matters’.

Drawing upon both the sociological and environmental landscape as creative inspiration, Aboutface uses his background in fine art and painting to help inform his productions. All the last three years music has been inspired by a thousand mile plus journey through Eastern Europe and around the coastal regions of the UK; each song using the environmental recordings of a different region or city as the creative starting point.

He says "I like to combine field recording, acoustic and analogue sounds to articulate small stories in each song. My creative influences range from Pierre Schaeffer, Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Claude Debussy, through to James Holden, Four Tet and Boards of Canada.”

The complexity and broad fields of influence are evident in ‘The Hazy Path To Misunderstanding’. The EP is made up of three tracks, ‘The Hazy Path To Misunderstanding’ is a meandering and laid back percussive track whilst ‘My Benevolent Shackle’ exudes a darker intensity. Lastly Tin Man steps up for a remix of ‘The Hazy Path To Misunderstanding’ adding more frenetic energy to the track and upping the pace.

Aboutface’s compositions are intelligent, and with a debut album planned for next year slotting into the eclectic Dark Matters' growing roster, the future looks bright.

Faces are a peculiar thing, when you spend an hour or two of your life thinking about it. While we all have fairly similar bodies, on the most-part, our faces are where the differences really show and there's more going on with our facial characteristics than any other part of our bodies. Faces are what we use to show every last little detail of our life - whether that be in the form of crow's feet, laughter lines or the fact that we had spaghetti bolognese for dinner last night.

That's why we reckon Aboutface is on to something good. Well, that and the fact that he's making some cracking music and we're very happy indeed to be bringing this new one from him your way. He's even been so kind as to share some words with us and describe his sound for you;

"My artist name is Aboutface, I'm a sound-artist, phonographist, sound-designer, painter and occasionally a musician. Using my name, this is how I would [currently] describe my 'sound' for the EP and upcoming album; for some entires I have included some formative musical influences to paint the picture an alternative way.

Die Ideen zu der neuesten EP vom Gespann @buchneroberst stammen ursprünglich aus einem Pool von Track-Entwürfen, die ursprünglich mal für ein Album gedacht waren. „Die Tracks sind etwas anders als unsere bisherigen Veröffentlichungen, weniger auf den Dancefloor ausgerichtet, eher experimenteller mit vielen Pop-Einflüssen“, erzählen Andreas Buchner und Sebastian Oberst, „wir haben uns da eher ausgetobt, viel ausprobiert. Vermutlich spielen da poppige Einflüsse aus unserer Kindheit eine gewisse Rolle, die wohl aber eher unbewusst mit eingeflossen sind.“ Herausgekommen ist die 3-Track-starke „Emile“. „Greg“ kommt daher wie ein Breakbeat-Bad voller sommerlichen Akkorde. Since his first successes as a DJ and producer, Marco Tegui has been drawn to the most renowned dance floors of the world - from the Winter Music Conference in Miami, via Ibiza and to Berlin. He is accompanied along the way by the three artists The Note V, Vruno and Tone of Arc. Premiere: George X - Cloud Shape (Alberto Jossue Remix)[Dream Culture]

Following up on the latest release by Muno which was influenced by the sounds of South America, the fifth EP delivered by Heimlich Musik comes with two disco bangers by Johannes Klingebiel and remixes by O/Y and Fred Behrtet.

Created in Prague, the two original tracks with their melancholic harmonies are mirrors of two beautiful years Johannes Klingebiel spent in the Czech capital. "Voula" carries elements clearly influenced by Nicolas Jaar, putting them into an entirely different context. Reduced to a very limited number of  elements, "Goodbye" delivers a mood hard to describe in words. Except the beat section the song mainly uses a bassline and a few pad sounds to transport the brightness that is needed to describe the idea of the track. Remixing "Voula", Fred Behrtet is adding some additional power to the original version that suits the dancefloor even more, and up and coming shooting star O/Y delivers a  remix combining his characteristic weirdness with beats that unexperienced DJs might have a hard time with. All in all, the release is a perfect fit for melancholic late summer days and a smooth start into autumn.
