@skylinbeats' “Odyssey” is a concept album of 8 tracks building a story arc on the foundations of bass music genres such as wave, grime, dubstep and future garage.

The record is an exploration of the early “wave” sound, but even more so a work of sonic fiction melting together inspirations from dystopian cinematics, mysticism, and psychedelic imaginaries.

Sonically, the album puts a focus on atmospheric sound design and emotive synth textures, supported by furious drum programming and droning reece basslines.

From fragments of German and British rave culture to Bulgarian choirs, Chinese zithers and Japanese taiko drums, the album embodies its name in regards to its diverse instrumental palette.

“Odyssey” is a journey through many trials and tribulations, taking the listener on a path of becoming.

skylin - You Know

Taking a step back tempo-wise, MIRAGE paints a colder, almost glacial picture of galactic wastelands, summoned by synth pads and appreggios, reminiscent of early electronic ambient but fused with laid-back downbeats like in early Om Unit productions. A shrouded lamentation of what has been long lost and forgotten.

Earthly stages of the journey are followed up by a more cosmic twist on DIMENSION. Starting out with a proper out-of-space feeling, the tracks’ trancey synthesizers morph and transform into a powerful expression of energies and emotions.

Upon arrival at the center piece of the ODYSSEY, icy arpreggios and furious garage drums create a surreal ambience with distant lights looming in the dark, hinting at the hopeful horizons ahead.

The journey continues east with a fiercer and faster beat on KOWLOON. A concoction of hypnotic sounds and percussive elements that feels like a distant memory of traversing endless urban plains of darkness.

skylin - Kowloon

The overture of the album, SOFIA, casts a perspective on what’s to come. Starting off with gloomy guitar strings and crackling sounds of decaying concrete debris, the song immerses you in a melancholic, yet reverent atmosphere soon to be joined by a droning sub bass. Transendence starts right down in the depths.

skylin - Sofia

Chintu is a Hertfordshire based DJ/Curator, he runs a Project called Chintutang that started as a local hot sauce brand/art project for his homies during lockdown which later developed into a monthly linkup for 160 artists/DJs in London; forming a space for avid followers of the sound to gather around some decks, share music and stay practiced.

He has since locked in a monthly residency with Brixton Radio which is the current home for the Chintutang project throughout the colder months; showcasing the city's talent, with a firm focus in forward thinking music and the fundamental eras that allowed them to exist. Expect a dynamic three deck mix moving through different cultures and styles at THE magic bpm!

Toyacoyah is an indigenous DJ that draws inspiration from both ancestral rhythms and modern-day breakbeats, bringing a unique fusion of influences to her DJ sets. This avid record collector began her DJ journey in the late 90s curating beats for a drum n’ bass radio show at the University of Oklahoma. Following graduation, she ventured to Austin,Texas, where she continued pushing the drum n’ bass sound at raves + clubs across
Texas, Colorado, California, and even internationally in Brazil.
During her time in Austin, she was one of the original resident DJs for Mental Note, a night dedicated to liquid funk + jazzy drum n’ bass at Plush nightclub. 
Now residing in Chicago, she’s embarked on a new chapter in her musical journey sharing her passion for the faster tempos she loves with audiences across the Midwest. Her high-bpm selections have given her the opportunity to play alongside some of her favorite producers including Addison Groove, Andy C, Drumagick, Fabio, LTJ Bukem, Random Movement, Roni Size, and Sam Binga. Expect to hear the full spectrum of bass sounds in her sets, as she works her way through electro, breaks, juke, jungle,footwork and more.

The legendary Horsepower Productions return to Sneaker for a thematically charged trip into future zones, driven by dexterous breakbeat science and ruffneck soundboy wisdom.

The UK dubplate heavyweights are no stranger to a loaded sample, and they’ve got a message to impart on this double-edged record. They kick off with a rumination on the planet’s fragile ecosystem on ‘Tropic’, which looks to a possible future with an ominous fate for the foliage we hold dear. Production-wise, Horsepower set electric drum loops off against lurid daubs of synth without derailing the motion, but a huge amount of the track’s impact arrives in the sampling from a cult classic slice of sci-fi. The premise is that the last remaining trees and plants from earth are adrift in space in a bio-dome, and have been condemned for demolition - a depressingly feasible scenario with an aggravated soundtrack to boot.
