Deon is a Detroit native whose roots stem from the crates of his mother, father, uncles, & aunties. 
Growing up hearing many different styles of music in the household is the inspiration behind his range of selection. 
Besides playing records, Deon runs events of his own such as the "Black Music: Art & Music Exhibition" as well as the "Healin' Session" party series and his Friday Night Funk monthly party.

These days it's commonplace to see artists straddle the worlds of music and fashion, from rappers to producers and songwriters, but Grace Jones did it first, and few since have done it so effortlessly. Born in Jamaica and raised in New York, the supermodel soon became an icon for the city's cutting edge cultural legacy, releasing albums with Island Records that blurred the lines between new-wave, dub, disco, post-punk, & pop, essentially defining 1980s cool.

On today’s edition of the show, Darone invites @deonjamarmd. Deon is a Detroit native whose roots stem from the crates of family. Growing up hearing many different styles of music in the household is the inspiration behind his range of selection. Inspired by everything from jazz, funk, & soul, to more modern black dance music forms like hip-hop/r&b, house, techno, & broken beat.

His career in Detroit began as resident DJ & organizer for the monthly hip-hop showcase “Bluecollar Gentleman”.
Around the same time, working with Theo Parrish to promote the Music Gallery party series & most recently to co-curate Theo’s ‘Detroit Forward’ compilation on K7 Records.

Aside from playing gigs, Deon also enjoys programming events of his own such as the “Healin’ Session” party series and the music and art exhibition, “Black Music”.
