Twenty-three, personally my favourite number, I think it just stuck in my head as a kid growing up idolising Michael Jordan, those two numbers when joined together are synonymous with greatness so its only fitting that the next broadcast is bought to you by someone that is destined for greatness, HAM, is his name, aka the king of the cured aka the surgeon’s insurgent. 

Ham comes from the Steeplejack family tree so it’s an instant tick if you know what’s up but he’s worked hard and carved out his own niche, pushing almost every boundary that exists and making new boundaries just to push them too. His DJ sets are literally something else, unexplainable anomaly’s, agent Mulder and Scully type shit as well his residency on Sky Lab with him and his fellow humans show called ‘Faultlines’ (huge tip!). His ears are finely tuned to your brain/spine, this mix is the perfect example of such a thing but I’ll get into that later. Ham and I met one fateful evening at an unnamed Italian eating establishment, after that I’m sure our paths would cross again and they did, one faithful sunny Saturday at the last strawberry fields I was wondering in a daze and who comes and taps me on the shoulder other than Ham himself, I then adopted him as my guardian angel for the day and what it day it was (the rest I’ll tell you in person). Anyway moving forward or backward, I’m still unsure. 

the mix ……………… well, the words that have stuck in my head since I first listened were ‘romantically awkward’ and I think they will stick in yours. I listened to it on a solo drive into the bush and I got lost with no reception and its as if it was made for it so I recommend you do the same. seriously. From the point I realised I wasn’t where I needed to be, to losing reception, to just saying ‘fuck it’ and kept driving to then finding the road I need to be on and thus arriving at my original destination, I’d have to say it was one of the most intense car trips I’ve ever been on and I wouldn’t change a thing. I liken it to driving through a long tunnel with no headlights on, the intensity is indescribable and only matched by the hypnotic bliss that it morphs into. This mix isn’t for everyone and I’m very proud of that because otherwise, I’d be doing something wrong. It will test you, as all music should.

we are very privileged to have 2 legends from the southwest of England, The Horn & Mark Darby.

Mark Darby is first to join us, with a treasure trove of deep tripped out techno gems. The man behind the Record shop & label “Mighty Force” was part of UK's early acid house & rave scene. The shop's birthplace was in Exeter, early 90s and this "unusual" store quickly became a catalyst for electronic music & a platform for local producers. Demo tapes were flooding in, but one, in particular, caught Mark's attention, the name on the tape was Aphex Twin, resulting into the 1st ever Aphex Twin record been put out.
On the second hour, we are joined by label friend Steve Horn, aka The Horn. A prolific producer since the 90's with a unique style of techno and obscure sonic experiments with releases on Evolution label and more recently, Mighty Force, Workshop & Klass Wrecks.

Qi M0N0 (@qi-mono) arrives with an assiduous selection of rolling left-field sounds with a particular focus on mid-tempo tracks with vocal oddities.

Nashville-based producer, percussionist, and DJ @mischa-lively (née Blake Barton) has held a special place in our hearts over the past few years, ever since first discovering his work through his parties, and recordings on RACECAR and his own imprint, New Love Unlimited. Every new mix from Mischa is a true joy and an event that is bound to cure whatever ails ya. Likewise, his productions sparkle, consistently turning up in mixes from our most beloved selectors. For that reason, there's no one we'd rather have help us ring in the beginning of this wild, troubled, and hopeful year, with his dreamy brand of life-giving, rhythm-forward soul and italo. Our little islands feel more and more like an archipelago of love after each listen, and for that we're ever thankful.

"At the end of 2019, @ilind and I discussed me recording a mix for their series Abstract Without Abstraction. Nearly a year later, after adapting to quarantine, I finally submitted a mix to them. I selected important records from my personal history (plus a few newer acquisitions) and focused on the long blend, honoring mood and song structure. No longer having a monthly DJ slot, this is a snapshot of what I might’ve played during hour 1 of 5 at Duke’s had the pandemic never took hold. What is strange is this mix was recorded in early October 2020, and was guided by thoughts of renowned laid-back resident DJ, José Padilla, mixed eerily just a couple weeks before his death on October 18, 2020. This is my interpretation of José’s Balearic resident ethos, albeit less beachy and much slimier. Thank you José for reminding us that the person mixing is just the conduit for the greater magic already existing in the music. And thank you Isaac allowing my submission."
