Label co-owner Moakz returns to Codename: RCRDS with Lunatic Age EP, featuring a select of uniquely styled dancefloor bangers which have been featuring heavily in his sets over the past few months, complemented by three storming remixes from some of the most talented artists currently at work in the scene.

The EP opens with the prophetic title track ‘Lunatic Age’, a hybrid of atmospheric synths, electrostep and jungle with a warning message which feels unnervingly prescient in light of current world events. ‘A Dark Future’ flips 4x4 beats into a deep atmospheric direction as its vocals muse on the dystopian influences of the roots of jungle and techno, before Mineral contributes his stunningly brutal rework of the same track, flipping intelligently between introspective moments and tearout drops.

The 2nd half of the release brings the well titled ‘Calm Before The Storm’, with hypnotic synth lines and rolling drums building things towards a crescendo before the track locks firmly into the groove with a rumbling bass that continually pushes things forward. Code Of Silence provides his signature tearing amen drum work to his rework of ‘Lunatic Age’, bringing the hardcore elements to the fore and adding an extra vocal for good measure. Last up is man of the moment Neekeetone’s vibrant remix of ‘Back To The Earth’, where warped basses and trademark precision break choppage escalate the original to fresh new heights.

Here is a little biog about them:

In a Certain Ratio is a Music Project composed by Vicente Garcia and Esther Ester and based in Madrid.
Our influences are based on both current and old school sounds, from 80´s and 90´s sounds, with highlights of film soundtracks like Giallo, for example , to music made with Goblin synthesizers .
On this occasion, it is our pleasure to present this mix for our friends Death By Repetition. 

This mix is our personal approach towards new artists productions, working with hard synthesizers and yet full of rhythm, dark vowels, broken guitars, industrial boxes and touches of Indie and also some old production to bring a touch of freshness.
We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed recording it!

Emotional Rescue returns to the the work of remix specialists extraordinaire, Razormaid, with a special collection of their remixes of cold wave / dark wave synth band, Psyche. Featuring unreleased, re-edited and remastered versions of some of the bands most club-based tracks on one EP for the first time. 

Formed in 1982 in Edmonton, Canada by Darrin and Stephen Huss out of love of the new electronic sounds emanating out of Europe, Psyche soon forged their own path. Influenced by the industrial and post-punk sounds of bands like Killing Joke and Alien Sex Fiend, as well as the synth pop melodies of groups like Soft Cell and Yazoo, the brothers help precipitate the start of darker electronic "goth" sound. 

Following the success of their self released debut, Insomnia Theatre, ripples across the water in Europe led to it subsequently being picked up and rereleased by French label New Rose. Coming to Paris in 1986 to record the follow up, Unveiling The Secret, they heard that San Francisco based edit / remix protagonists Razormaid had created a re-edit of the title single for one of their own DJ tool compilations. 

Liking what they heard, a deal was strike allowing future tracks to come under the remixers scalpel and special versions created from the master recordings. With this came a new remix of Unveiling The Secret and also, early single, Prisoner Of Desire, with both only appearing on the increasingly sought after Razormaid DJ series. 

Impressed with the results, Joseph Watt was then commissioned to work his mixing desk skills on the band's follow up 12". Included here, Watt's classic "US Club Mix" of Eternal is the perfect marriage of Psyche's poppier elements with Razormaid's mastery of finding the groove. This is backed with the tougher, throbbing - and never released on 12" before - "Alcatraz Mix" retake of Prisoner Of Desire. 

On the reverse sees the collaboration between Psyche and Razormaid continue today with a specially reworked version of Watt's re-edit of Unveiling The Secret. Additional arranging by Darrin Huss sees the lyric and structure return to that of the original album version to unique effect. To close is the specially extended mix of Ecstasy from the Intimacy album - which itself was produced, edited and mixed by Joseph Wyatt - a version only ever released on Razormaid DJ Promo until now!
