Dasha Rush is a Russian born artist who sees the genre as a starting place not a destination. She is a respected and well-travelled DJ and live performer, but her work is equally focussed away from the dance floor, and sometimes away from music itself. Her recent album for Raster-Noton, Sleepstep, could be a metaphor for her work: "These 16 pieces are transmissions from that state between sleep and wakefulness," said Tony Naylor, a reflection of the in-between zones her music often inhabits. Dubby but intense, brutal but tender, foggy yet clear—Sleepstep was a wonderful mass of contradictions. Not being one thing or the other is vitally important to Rush, which goes hand-in-hand with her strong independent streak. The majority of the music she's released since starting out in 2005 has come through her own Fullpanda label and, as she told us in 2013, she's resistant to playing the publicity game in the way many in the scene do. That's meant she's remained off the radar for some techno fans, but it's also given her the freedom to explore projects and sounds as she pleases. With all this mind, it was little surprise that our invitation to record a podcast was met with, "Yes, but it won't be a club mix." What we got instead was an absorbing 65 minutes of dense ambient soundscapes that shows Rush at her most reflective. The mix comes ahead of the North American premiere of Antarctic Takt, Rush's A/V show with Stanislav Glazov, at this week's Mutek festival in Montreal.

This is an extract from the two hours journey of DASHA RUSH at the Kuboraum Gallery in Berlin during the third episode of their event series held during Berlin Atonal Festival since 2015 (www.berlin-atonal.com). 
DASHA RUSH is the best example of sophistication, perfectionism and beautiful execution in the scenario of electronic music. DJ, performer and producer on labels such as Raster-Noton and her own Fullpanda imprint. This extract from Dasha's astonishing dj set in the dense and unique atmosphere of the Kuboraum wunderkammer will literally open the doors of your dreams, a full immersion in the oblivion of time, drifting into universal states.

For techno in Amsterdam, few do it better than Sandrien. The Dutch native has been collecting records in her hometown for the best part of two decades, and became a staple of the city’s underground scene through MAD2 – the club night she ran with friend Carlos Valdes. Building on the success of MAD2 she went onto establish Imprint – the night she’s best known for – which she ran at the much-loved Trouw club up until its closure at the beginning of 2015. In the years since she’s been playing out increasingly beyond the Dutch capital, with 2017 seeing her tour Asia and stop off in Berlin for regular appearances. This rise in popularity is a real testament to her prowess as a selector.

On 14th October she makes her Farringdon debut, so we didn’t hesitate in inviting her to record a mix for us to introduce herself. For her mix, she dropped a carefully-curated selection of ambient, IDM, broken beats and techno, before discussing her record digging habits and the scene in her hometown.
