With Proton Music consistently championing the cause of the underground dance scene with a roster of exciting and talented artists, we are proud to present a quartet of beautifully crafted tracks by Jack's CAB and his "Harmonic Energy".

Exploding onto the trance and progressive radar in 2012 after being selected to work alongside the iconic figure of Richard Durand, South African artist, Stefan Viljoen, immediately found his name on the lips of the dance music fraternity. A regular across the clubs of his Gauteng home town and beyond, Viljoen quickly saw his music signed to leading imprints that included Above All, F! Records and Southern State Music, before work for the Tiesto led, Back Hole, saw further global success and a regularly featured artist on Armin Van Buuren's "A State of Trance".

Taking a break from the trance sound, 2017 brought about a new phase in Viljoen's career as he created the Jack's CAB moniker. Representing "a new sound" infused with elements of techno, progressive and house, "The Hive" EP on Kalushi Recordings in March was quickly followed by "Alliance" on South African label, Triplefire Music, in June.

Now, Viljoen debuts on Proton Music with his Jack's CAB alter-ego as "Harmonic Energy" tells its four-track tale. Surrounded in a crisp rhythmic shell of stereo-panned claves, a laconic beat provides the basis for opener, "Purity". Coupled with an emotive bassline progression, the track evolves with a flowing melodic line that shines through in a stripped back breakdown. The addition of ambient background noise provides further texture in the third movement in a work of skill and craft. "Simulate" immediately hits its stride with strong four-to-the-floor kick and shuffling percussive hi-hats. A cavernous bassline provides low-end intrigue as a spine-tingling progression provides aural gold that pulsates and filters into the latter stages. An array of subtle melodic lines keeps interest high in a dark and edgy track of skill and guile.

Joining forces with fellow countryman, Third Identity, "Colateral Symphony" is characterised by a laid-back, bouncing groove that revels in strong beat and intelligently placed sub bass. A hypnotic motif supplies melodic interest as a counterpoint lines emerge post-breakdown in off-beat delayed and filtered glory, panning the stereo spectrum in spatial glory. Final track, "The Coalition" brings the additional talents of Laminin Music to the fray as the trio of South African talents combine in an aptly titled work. House rhythms keep melodic elements in check as a trademark Jack's CAB bassline provides customary dominant status. A chorus of melodies lie delicately in stratified layers across the mid-range with clever placement ensuring harmonic joy. Rising and falling with precision throughout the eight-minute voyage, the track is a triumph of southern hemisphere collaboration.

A quartet of tracks from the Jack's CAB studio has seen "Harmonic Energy" flow from his innovative sonic architecture.

Dashdot—written as a single word with no space—is a Brazilian duo whose members grew up apart but eventually crossed paths in São Paulo. Dashdot was born with a first appearance at club D-Edge in 2012. Over the years, they have combined their outstanding musical intuition and technique with an unusual stage presence, performing in places such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, Russia, Mexico, South Africa, Indonesia, Egypt, and various corners of Latin America.

As they orchestrate audiences, their performances often garner intense compliments and calls for encores, leading to frequent invitations to stay as resident DJs at Warung and D-Edge, two of the most respected clubs in Brazil. They were recently recognized by the BPM Festival as one of the best performances of its 2016 edition.
