Das Maik + Das Reinier = Das Manier.

The DJ/Producer duo met during their time at university in the east of the Netherlands. Their friendship was founded in their mutual interest in computer and business studies and connection through a local student association. It was there that the seed for their current joint creativity was planted. Those six years ago, Reinier already played at local bars and was getting hold of new and rare synthesizers for his collection. As a good friend and coming from a musical background, Maik’s interest in producing and DJ-ing was sparked as well. However, although meeting at university, the duo’s relationship evolved from close friends to partnering artists only after they both finished their studies and moved to Amsterdam. It was there that they found the freedom to create their vision and further develop their sound. Now they both agree: Working on tracks in the studio and performing sets is much more enjoyable and motivating together than alone.

What stands out when the duo takes their – one would say, rightful – place behind the decks is their attention to the overall experience and thus simultaneously also, attention to every detail. Everything must fit: From the light bulb in the corner to the emotional reaction of the beholder. Therefore in their sets the duo chooses tracks with a sort of surgical precision. Ultimately, they are very consciously in control of what comes next: Surprise, suspense or silence. Because of this, those listening to a Das Manier set get spoiled with a story being told. It is not surprising the duo quickly gained avid followers from their Brainwash Sessions, which now engage a few thousand listeners on Soundcloud.
