Mike Balance: A Visionary with a Legacy

Mike's musical palette is a vibrant fusion of Tech, Funky, and Bass House - a sonic tapestry that has resonated across countless nightclubs, festivals, and home stereos.

Born and raised in the dynamic landscape of Houston, TX, Mike found his calling in the pulsating beats of electronic music. After moving to Idaho in the early '90s, he planted the seeds of the rave movement in Boise, where he became known for his unique Funky Jackin' Tech House sound & original productions.

InStereo Recordings and Beyond

The journey westward led Mike Balance to the heart of the electronic music hub – Los Angeles, CA. Here, he became an integral part of InStereo Recordings, joining forces with the legendary DJ Dan to manage the label for nearly a decade. Their collaborative efforts will go down as some of the best high-powered Funky House that's ever come out of the west coast!

Mike's discography has earned him a well-deserved place among some of House music's best sonic engineers & beat scientists. Today, Mike remains dedicated to perfecting the art of hot jams and in recent years he's had high-charting releases on Beatport spanning the realms of Tech House, Funky House, and Breaks. A monster among humans, the knob tweaking madkid in the mask. This monster of the new school has been locked up in his bunker engineering some tasty bombs aimed directly at the dance floor. His productions can be described with a simple phrase "A Punch To The Face"

A fascination with sound design and an immense passion for music production has allowed the young producer to mold sounds into his own vision. He has been producing remixes for some of dance musics most acclaimed artists, from Deadmau5 to DJ Dan, Tommie Sunshine to Sharam Jey among others on record labels like John Acquaviva's Definitive Recordings, Melleefresh's Play Digital, Sharam Jey's King Kong Records, Dave Aude's Audacious Records, and top Breaks imprint Title Fight Recordings co-owned by Klaus "Heavyweight" Hill and Dopamine.

His formerly known "Wonky Sessions" now known as the "Wonkcast" podcast, are gaining popularity as well, featuring some of the most exciting talent from around the globe, like John Acquaviva, Wolfgang Gartner, Sharam Jey, DJ Dan, and Olivier Giacomotto among others.

After demolishing the Fidget House era of 2008 onward, Defunct! are back with a fresh new sound grabbing from the soul of House Music and putting it into a chunk of techie funk based from their Fidget House roots. They are once again breaking boundaries with their innovative take on Dance Music. Defunct! have released on Steve Aoki's Dim Mak Records, Tiesto's Black Hole Recordings, and over 100 other labels. They have had their music placed on Miss Universe 2013 which went to over 17 million viewers and are on various commercials internationally. Defunct! has toured South Africa, Europe, New Zealand, Australia, USA, Canada, South America and Australasia regions. Defunct! is based out of UK and Switzerland.
