This track is inspired by a dream I had where I died in a plane crash. "Odyssey" comes from the travels of Ulysse - his fear of never coming back home & never reaching his ambitions. It's a track about deception and the fear of death, the fear of never accomplishing your goals.

Pixelord's debut album will land on March 31st. 

Places is the culmination of five years of producing as Pixelord for Russian artist Alexy Devyanin (who has gone by Gultskra Artikler, Computer Graphics and other aliases in the past). As Pixelord, he became known for a hip-hop-inspired, broken beat sound over releases for Error Broadcast, Car Crash Set and later, his own Hyperboloid Records, which is also behind Places. 

Inspired by all the cities and venues that Devyanin has visited on tour, the record was conceived as a way to conjure and immortalize his memories of these specific places, from the "dry and shaky techno rattle of Berlin" to the "gaudy and vivid drums of Phuket." The label promises the album is "mellow and lush, yet still rhythmically wild." Beijing, Moscow and Ottawa are some of the other areas profiled on Places. You can stream LP track "Bodø" below.

After a couple of lesser spotted DJ stars, we now look to someone who has blown up in a very short space of time. Based in the Windy City, The Black Madonna has not only released some highly sought after, steamy disco-house 12”s on Argot, Stripped & Chewed and The Nite Owl Diner, but so too has she started making her mark as chief booker at Chicago’s famous Smart bar. As well as this, she has found time to lay down sets all across Europe and North America and this latest podcast proves why the opinionated feminist is so in demand. It is a kinetic and athletic mix that goes from deep and heady to jump up and jacking, from diva vocals to dazzling disco and one that both starts and ends with a fat bottomed reggae swagger. 

She says of the mix: ”I had so much fun doing this. I got snowed in at the house where all the guys from Stripped & Chewed live. We're lucky the electricity stayed on. There was a terrible blizzard here! So I just stayed there and recorded. It's the first time I DJed since my hearing came back too. I had a little audience trapped with me, so was a great time.”

Reed Kackley, the Brooklyn-based producer aka BAILE, makes texturally rich dance music inspired by house and downtempo.

His EP, ‘Matter’, released last July, combined minimal electronic compositions with lush vocal performances by featured artists like Felicia Douglass (Ava Luna, Gemma) & Marie Kim (Blank Paper). In addition to receiving airplay by Pete Tong (BBC Radio 1), two singles from the EP landed in the top 5 of Hype Machine’s ‘Most Popular’ chart. Kackley has also recently remixed artists like Baio, Mansionair & Doe Paoro.

On the subject of his creative process, BAILE explains: “When I’m listening to music I find myself more drawn to individual sounds and textures within a song rather than the songs as a whole. During the writing process, I focus on juxtaposing raw elements with synthetic ones, creating something that can feel crisp and clean but also organic and natural. I’m always striving for a really open, clear mix where every nuance of each sound can be heard.”

BAILE’s new EP ‘Stay Safe’ puts the production in the foreground, blending foley sounds recorded in various locations over the past year, with warm analog synthesizers & subtle vocal textures and we premiere 'Spill' today.
