Counting almost three years in the game now, Demand Records have set themselves a mammoth task. To continually release music that cuts through the mounting levels of hype that surround the drum and bass scene of 2013 while retaining an edge of experimental innovativeness is no easy feat.

Luckily, by pushing the task onto the greatest talents of the deep, dark and creative side of the scene, the label have achieved exactly what they set out to do. Drum & Bass on Demand 2 is a collection of darkly intelligent beats from some of the label's biggest stars, as well as some incredible new talents.

The two exclusive vinyl-only tracks kick off with Abstract Elements' neurofunk electrical storm that is “Saturn”, a steely rollout through buzzing synths and rapidly morphing basslines.

At Data Transmission, we know it's important to look beyond our borders for new talent which is why we leave no stone unturned or corner of the earth unexplored as we scour the globe in search of hot new talent. Sometimes however, we find that some of the worlds brightest talents are closer to home than we might realise. Case in point: Jett. Hailing from Hackney, Jett lives a stones throw from our offices and has been making plenty of noise for a while now.

Thus it would have been churlish of us (and downright dimwitted) not to invite our fellow Londoner to contribute to our illustrious pages here on DT.  First coming to our attention with his debut release for Jaymo and Andy George’s Moda Black imprint, with ‘I Know I Want You' Jett quickly won us over with his garage and house inflected sound and evidently we weren't the only ones he's made an impression on with further cuts picking up support from the likes of Breach, Midland, Maceo Plex and Z.D.S to name a few.

Joseph Garrett, best known as the creator and voice of one of the most popular Minecraft avatars, Stampy Cat, joins Rhett & Link this week to discuss the meticulous creative process and hours of preparation that go into what some people perceive as “just playing video games,” why his investment in the education of his younger fans led to a partnership with Maker Studios and his new innovative show, Wonderquest, and how an online infatuation led to a real life romance.

Eatbrain are a prolific label with an intense release schedule, who along with a slew of other European labels and European artists are skewing the D&B genre away from its traditional UK heartlands and truly making it their own.  In fact we would go as far to say as they are now dominating the scene, reviving it from its previous period of stagnation and instilling it with a renewed vigour and vitality that seems lacking in many British artists always looking for the next big thing.

Yet despite their factory floor approach to putting music out Eatbrain always manage to deliver the goods. Their artwork is singular and killer as well – demented, referential and comic book in style.

The next release from their continental stable comes in the form of the ‘Rawbot EP’ by Italian maestro Dabs (Davide Rustici) and like the rest of their roster is concerned with evil bass pressure and nu-school neuro dancefloor machismo. 
We have managed to bag the second track on the EP – ‘Hysteria’ – made in collaboration with Czech producer A-Cray, a tough, macho number that combines a nasty reese bassline with militant, short, clipped drums and darkside sound effects.

Devil's Pie is honored to present to you a tribute of jazz living legend Herbie Hancock by Mark de Clive-Lowe, one of today's contemporary musical masters. More than a regular DJ mix, this live recording features Mark looping, remixing, and adding his own musicianship to Herbie's iconic music.

In Mark de Clive-Lowe's own words:
"The first time I heard Herbie Hancock was the Miles live album My Funny Valentine/Four and More. It was the first time I'd heard that era jazz music and I remember being so blown away with the way Herbie and Tony Williams played together and interacted on that concert. That was the start of a deep admiration and love for the art, creativity and music of Herbie Hancock. I consumed everything I could that he turned his hand to - all of his work with Miles, his own solo records for Blue Note, sideman recordings with every jazz great in every decade since the 60s, his Mwandishi experimental crossover work, the Headhunters deep funk - there's nothing the man could not do. As a pianist he's the ultimate - harmonically so rich and inventive, melodically so lyrical, rhythmically so damn hip. I've been fortunate to see him play on numerous occasions all over the world. The first time was the VSOP band live in Japan along with Wayne Shorter, Wallace Roney, Ron Carter and Tony Williams. I was 17 at the time and can't really fully explain how amazing that was to me. He's one of my biggest inspirations and influences and through his huge body of work, a true musical mentor. In being asked to put together a tribute set, it was the perfect opportunity to go back through decades of his work and pick moments that I really love. I wanted to do more than just spin a set of tunes though, I wanted to take those moments and sample them, flip them, perform a live mixtape. It was the perfect way to share the man's music and how I feel about it. Enjoy!"

So Much Lasagne is the moniker of multi-talented rapper and producer Ben Thomson. His new mix for i-D, which sees a host of unexpected artists coming together to make a seamless whole, is a classic example of Ben's thoughtful approach to music. He states, "The whole idea of music and dance came out of trying reach a state where you lose a sense of self and gain a glimpse of something existential, so I put together a mix showing the similarities between certain kinds of hip-hop and psychedelica. In my opinion, producers of these two genres are more willing to forego the ego and make music that worships at the altar of creation more than any other (short of religious chant music). Dj Screw said it best when he wrote “My Mind Went Blank”.  Also, aliens.
