Today’s mix of the day comes from one of the underground techno scenes fastest rising stars in Marino Canal. Excited that he has been announced  to make his Fabric London debut on Saturday 30th November when he steps up to the decks  at the London institution alongside Craig Richards, Guti and Laura Jones, Marino has generously decided to perk up our Tuesday afternoon with an exclusive mix to showcase his skills and get us in the party mood.  It's a dream come true for Marino and another step on the career path of a DJ/producer who is rapidly gaining the attention of the underground. Fans of his productions include Richie Hawtin, Luciano and Dubfire and now, it seems, Fabric founder Keith Reilly...who left us in no doubt with his appraisal of Marino:

"We all live in a world where we have instant access to the world's most talented DJ's now. But every decade or so you hear someone, and you know there is something else, something very special going on. I feel Marino is that someone.”

There was a child born on the planet of Technotron and was given the name Kazaroochi at birth. As a baby, his parents sent him to Earth in a small spaceship moments before Technotron exploded. His ship landed in the Australian city of Melbourne. He was found and adopted by a tribe of ravers, who called him Kaz. Kaz developed various musical abilities, including incredible DJ skills and impressive musical tastes in House, Techno and Disco. His foster family advised him to use his abilities for the benefit of humanity, and he decided to become a world renowned DJ and producer in order to provide like minded humans with an environment where they can come together in a gathering of dance, happiness and freedom. To protect his identity, he wears flamboyant shirts and goes by the alias of KAZ JAMES when making humans dance. Kaz resides half the year in LA and the other in Mykonos where he holds his legendary Sunday residency at @scorpiosmyk ! Kaz’s obsession for red wine can be witnessed at any of his live shows around the globe. Kaz has now set up his own record label... which he named “Another Record Label”. The label was launched this summer 201 with “Not in Love” a collaboration with @itsnickmorgan In a recent interview with Fox News, Kaz James was quoted as saying "I don't like to take myself too seriously. I prefer my music to do the talking.”

OLIIV Live from Burning Man 2022 - The Stargazer

An irregular series of DJ mixes devoted to the world beyond the dancefloor.

From experimental electronics and dark ambient to psychedelic pop and blissed-out indie, the direction of each mix is completely of the artist's choosing. 
In keeping with the series' broad remit, featured selectors will include label owners, journalists, promoters and collectors as well as DJs and producers.

Mix Twelve is from producer, DJ and Circus Company cohort, Dave Aju.

San Francisco Bay Area native Marc Barrite’s alias Dave Aju has become a reliable name for fresh and expressive electronic music over the last decade, combining a deep knowledge and passion for dance music history with a fearless, forward-thinking approach to production and performance. A diverse range of influences, from his jazz upbringing and hip-hop roots to the outer realms of experimental rock and musique concréte can be heard in Aju’s unique sound.

Dave Aju remixes, DJ sets, and live performances are in high demand at labels, clubs, and festivals across the globe. And now, following the success and praise for his debut album Open Wide – created entirely with his mouth, and the acclaimed autobiographical follow-up Heirlooms, Aju is more active than ever further developing his musical universe, including some promising collaborations such as the voice of Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts’ new band project The Side Effects, new works for Matthew Herbert’s Accidental label and more recently the release of his 3rd studio album, Black Frames.

ABOUT THE MIX

"This is a one-take vinyl mix of a few personal non-club classics that recall beautiful moments and people in my life. From the moment I first saw The Skull Sessions LP artwork in my father's collection as a kid, and being blown away at the first Tortoise show a good friend took me to almost 20 years ago, to landing in Brazil on tour with Arthur Verocai in the headphones, smashing down the 101 South freeway bumping J Dilla in summertime heat, or playing notorious SF bar nights with the Magnificent 7 DJ collective. 

Most of the records were just pulled from storage back home in the Bay Area last month and brought back overseas to Berlin, so in many ways this was like having a nice catch-up session with old friends while introducing them to some new ones I've met more recently. The mix was made in the cave with two Technics 1210 MK2s, a Rane Empath mixer, some pretty nasty back-up needles borrowed from Mike Shannon, and love."

This is a compilation of 16 UK 7" singles recorded between 1978 and 1982, compiled by JD Twitch, that showcases the DIY spirit of those times. 

"If Punk was the nuclear detonation, the fallout that came after was where a lot of the most interesting music of that era was made. People who would never have thought to release a record before realised it was something they could do, and the end result was a DIY explosion. I've always loved music that doesn't try to fit in a particular genre, that is anti-canonical and doesn't care what else is going on in music at that time, that takes risks and is full of imagination and ideas that may or may not make any logical sense but that resulted in something unique, that ignores conventions about how a record SHOULD be produced and that was created simply because its creators felt the urge to express themselves and share the results with some other people. This compilation compiles 16 tracks that fulfil all those criteria. None of them had any success, most are (unjustly) obscure but every one of them has inspired me and would be in my ultimate 7" singles box." – JD Twitch.

This release has been a real labour of love involving tracing long-lost artists to far-flung corners of the globe, persuading them that the modern world needs to hear the music they made several decades ago, tracking down lost masters, lovingly restoring 7"s in the case of those where the masters were lost and then conceiving an elaborate package with detailed sleeve notes to house the double album package.

*NOTE - Due to legal problems with the original title a new version of the sleeve has had to be designed and manufactured. We still hope to make the original packaging available in a modified form but in the meantime this will be released in a gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves containing all the info and notes from the original.

The original 2 x LP vinyl edition was to come in a super deluxe package combining a double-sided black and white four x 12" panel sleeve, hand-folded into an LP sleeve with a colour insert containing colour photos of all the sleeves all inserted in a bespoke pvc wallet. The four x 12" panel sleeve contains sleeve notes and detailed overviews of each individual track by JD Twitch, and an introduction by New York's DIY expert Dan Selzer. Due to the huge amount of work involved putting the sleeve together, it would only ever exist in an edition of 500 copies. 

Release date October 30th 2015. Distribution by Kompakt.
