Beantown’s best homegrown music compilation, DOTC “A BOSTON ELECTRONIC MUSIC STORY,"  is back for the 5th year running.  Created by Soul Clap specifically to shine a spotlight on our beloved hometown and serve as a platform for the ever-growing number of rising local talent.  This annual series keeps us connected to our roots and to the beloved Dancing On The Charles event series we started more than a decade ago (can you believe it?) along with longtime friends and fellow DJs Randy Deshaies and Sergio Santos. 

This year's curation of artists celebrates the return of veterans while welcoming some new names but certainly not new talents to the compilation.  Camino 84  drops that bass line driven New-Disco-Dub-Funk on “Disconnected”, then check out the vintage craftsmanship from sample selector David Paglia  on “Say With Me”.  Legends  Kelvin Sylvester & Lee Wilson  bring us that house heat with “When The Beat Drops."  Self-described dip-shit duo  Juice Belushi  assembled a real throwback work-out called “The Detes”.  Nick Minieri’s “ Heat Index” is a percussive analog stomper and Roldy Cezaire  continues to blow our minds as a master songwriter, vibe magician and overall stand out talent.  This year Roldy teams up with Monolog and Atsushi Asada on their future-facing “Crazy Kind Of Love”.  Then flashback to the past with her feet in the present as Saucy Lady drops her modern funk on “It’s All Here”.  Compilation returnee  Suspence  joins forces with  Nick Thrine  and  Finley  on “Liquid” and Trip Report  reaches for the acid on “I’ve Got It (If You Want It).  Finally,  Wigzen & Alina thrill us with “Asita” featuring beautiful atmospheric pads, percussive synth bass and live strings taking this track over the top! 

In celebration of this years compilation we (Soul Clap) will be headed back home to Boston (well actually Cambridge) on Saturday, July 21st 2018 to perform at Dancing On The Charles.  If you’re in town do not miss this wonderful moment, we’d love to see each and everyone one of you!

LA-based music company, Godmode, is known for taking way-left artists and bringing them slightly more to the center.  After breaking Shamir and Yaeji, the label is back with their latest signing, Channel Tres. Channel grew up in the Compton neighborhood of Los Angeles, and his music is a clear representation of the surly attitude of West Coast rap reimagined with the stylings of Detroit house. Fans of Galcher Lustwerk would be wise to check out this project. Similar to the NYC legend, Channel’s voice is effortlessly deep, expertly processed, and a perfect compliment to his deep, sultry instrumentals.

“Top Down” oozes swagger. While a Paranoid London-esque acid bassline rips through ethereal pads, Channel croons, “bet you ain't never heard shit like this from the block before.” He’s not completely wrong. While he’s not the first to champion a sound like this, he certainly has few modern peers. Aside from how dope the song is, I really appreciate the emphasis he places on individuality as an artist. He says, “never let the scene choose you. Never met a man this cool.” For me, it’s essential for a musician to be original, to believe in the uniqueness of their music, and to not conform to the standards set by a saturated scene. Going forward, I hope Channel sticks to his words. It’s not everyday you hear a debut this polished and full of a variety of influences. I’ll be waiting to hear these tunes at my NYC after-hours, but until then, I’m about to cut the top off my Saturn and slow-ride through Brooklyn. Here’s your invite.

Finally „Towers“ comes dark and mystic in the beginning. That one fits in the club and for the late hours of a beach event and it brings you really far away with it’s hypnotic vibe. Delve Deeper welcome Edmonton based producer, musician and DJ Honeydripper to the label for his debut EP - Cookie Cutter. A guitarist by trade, he has spent well over a decade heavily involved in live music, taking inspiration and experience from a diverse background in jazz, funk, and roots music. However a love for dance music and underground culture sparked the way to a solo house music project in the spring of 2017.  

Title track Cookie Cutter combines live funk bass licks and deep vocal hooks with detuned analogue synth stabs and rolling sub bass to produce a peak-time Deep House groover full of energy and ready for the dancefloor.

Dusty Beats provides a huge kick drum and more rolling sub bass to create a deep and thumping track highlighted by haunting vocals and staccato bleeps which all come together to create an atmospheric yet thumping track.
