Spanish DJ and producer, Rafa Barrios, makes his debut on the mighty Kaluki Musik this month, with his brand new ‘Sense’ EP. Rafa has proven himself as one of the most consistent DJs in the game, with releases on labels such as Toolroom, Stereo, Tronic, Intec and Suara which have consequentially earned him support from A-listers; Marco Carola, Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Christian Smith and Mark Knight. Kicking the EP off is title track, ‘Sense’, which is a straight-up, no-nonsense, Tech House banger which is packed full of organic drums, intense risers, hypnotic vocal loops and an intoxicating bass hook. B-side, ‘Moscow’s Night’, also packs a punch with a driving bassline, soothing vocal chants, playful percussion and a grooving low-end.

Rafa Barrios - Moscows Night

Spanish DJ and producer, Bassel Darwish, makes his debut on Pirate Copy’s Kaluki Musik this month, with brand new EP; ‘Breath’. The Barcelona based artist has been dropping beats on some of the scene’s most acclaimed labels including Solid Grooves, Moan, Stereo, Great Stuff and Roush and he is a regular fixture in the Dance charts with heavyweight support from Marco Carola, wAFF, Dennis Cruz and Stefano Noferini to name a few. Kicking things off, lead track, ‘Breath’ is a grooving Tech House jam with chunky drums, bouncing b-line, rising synths and a hooky vocal throughout. ‘Like This’ completes the EP, packed with more punchy, syncopated bass rhythms giving the track an effortless groove and shuffling drums which pave the way for hypnotic looped vocals and playful percussion providing a tribal underground vibe.

Label boss and Kaluki head honcho, Pirate Copy, is back on his signature imprint with brand new killer single, ‘Bloc Party’. Since launching the label off the back off the powerhouse events brand, Kaluki has gone on to welcome many of the leading names in Dance music, artists including Solardo, Darius Syrossian, Max Chapman, Patrick Topping, Steve Lawler and Richy Ahmed have all found success on the label. ‘Bloc Party’ is a bumpy, groover packed full of energy with intricate drum patterns, swinging hats, an infectious bassline and hooky spoken word vocal lines at the core of the track.

Rising Tech House talent, Wheats, is inducted into the Kaluki family this month with his brand new 'Connections' EP. Boasting past support from Calvin Harris, Alan Fitzpatrick, Jamie Jones, Marco Carola and Mark Knight, the last two years have been a whirlwind of continual successes for the UK stalwart. With releases on labels including Saved, Toolroom, Sola and Madtech, not to mention collaborations with Techno don Alan Fitzpatrick and Radio 1 spins on almost every record he's released. Wheat's debut 'Connections' EP for the label showcases his signature sound, enthusing heavy hitting drums, playful percussion and atmospheric synths paired with rolling grooves, skipping hi-hats, looped vocals and trippy basslines; the perfect combination for this two-track surefire dancefloor hit!

The world-renowned Crosstown Rebels add the third instalment to their annual Spirits compilation, an album which has become established for delivering some of the biggest hits that have been heard in Damian Lazarus’ sets over the past year, from some of the most esteemed artists in electronic music. Let your mind become absorbed in this collection of diverse and exciting tracks.

The man himself Damian Lazarus opens the release, setting the tone with the haunting hypnosis of Ergot which contains snippets of an ancient Chilean revolution song, relevant to the current political climate. Next up Guti & Fosky collaborate once again in fine style to produce a smoky, late-night atmosphere, with the moody bassline and expertly crafted beat of Da Drumz. Side B and legendary producer Martin Buttrich combines driving tripped out rhythms with warm surging pads, creating a great musical tonic during Slow Down. Denney & James Dexter then deliver a peak time monster in the form of Transcend.

Next up Harry Romero adds a touch of romance on It’s You with an unravelling rhythm of heartfelt synth. Dennis Cruz’s Mother Earth follows up with striking vocals playing off one another with soaring brass and strings. More DJ ammunition is provided by Piem on Freak Out where a familiar looped sample is manipulated to ignite dance floor euphoria. Finally the bounce of Adonis Rivera’s XX Acid will have you hooked from the outset, as you would expect from the title, razor-sharp acid awakens every sense in this heady piece. Another great Spirits compilation to add to the esteemed series.
