The Twenty Fourth Chapter continues to be revealed as Swiss-Chilean artist Masaya proudly announces her debut full length album, Picking Up The Pieces. The 11 track affair is an accomplished listen from start to finish.

Masaya’s whole life is music. As boss of her own label Mina Records, she is a real underground star who has served up many great releases over the last ten years. This latest and greatest opus is a particularly personal one. Three years in the making and influenced by the birth of her son it is an album which draws on a rich range of musical references, truly 11 stories in sound.

Starting with the atmospheric and beatless Walking Dad, the album sucks you in right away. From there The Backstage picks up the pace with a serene deep house groove featuring plenty of soulful chords and sombre moods. Agnostic is brilliantly sparse and deep, with well-crafted drums and cosmic synth patterns unfolding up top.

Throughout the album, there is often a firmly rooted drum groove that keeps things locked to a late night dance floor vibe, and Haumea and Picture are perfect examples of that. Haunting vocal chops, shadowy strings and angelic keys colour pieces like Flow of Tears, Justin Loves and Inside, before the closing trio of Innocence, with its downbeat bass notes and wallowing vocal whispers, Borderline, littered with cowbells and synth drones, and Time Goes Fast, an optimistic closer complete with dreamy female vocals that leaves you feeling enlightened.

Overall then this is a sensational and absorbing album that really showcases Masaya’s fantastic sense of mood and groove, leaving us excited for the album remixes package set for later in the year. Her story continues on Chapter 24.

It ticks off all the boxes on the emotional spectrum; from glassy-eyed melancholy to uplifting euphoria and deep moodiness wrapped in rolling beats.

We’re pleased to premiere ‘Unity Of Kissing’, our favorite cut of the bunch - a gorgeous, passion-fueled song that feels exactly what its title sounds like. “This track is about the heart melting on a long, intense kiss,” Robert says. The 137th release on Tash's Movement Recordings welcomes Mariano Mellino and John Cosani back to the label for their debut collaborative EP.  The Argentinean duo have achieved much success in their respective solo careers, holding a collective discography with releases on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Lonya's Asymmetric Recordings. Now coming together for their first ever studio collaborations Mariano and John present 'Syracusse/Islandia' alongside remixes from Danito & Athina and Simos Tagias.

Both Mariano and John have been noted for their progressive minded productions and with their unique talents coming together they take it to a new level on ‘Syracusse’. Shuffled beats and mystical atmospheres create a surreal environment early before smooth rhythms and a rumbling low end lock down a strong groove. It's powerful, meditative drive leads to a cinematic break where waves of synths intensify over the rumbling foundation, ultimately leading to a huge moment and electric third act. 

The lone interpretation of ‘'Syracusse’ is provided by Danito & Athina who are making their first appearance on Movement Recordings.. Hailing from Cologne, Germany Danny Wendt and Tina Charalampidis make up the Danito & Athina production moniker. Although less than two years into their partnership the duo have already amassed a discography that includes releases on Crossfrontier Audio, Suruba, Jeudi Records and Eklektisch. With a fresh approach to progressive music Danito & Athina have taken 'Syracusse' into their own world of dark, mesmerising beats. Staying true to the mystical themes of the original the duo have reworked the foundation into a funky, rolling mass while waves of clattering drums and elastic synths take you further into the cosmos. A perfectly executed break builds tension while drums decay and a wall of twisted noise reignites the groove for a massive dance floor moment. Huge remix from Danito and Athena. 

The companion piece 'Islandia' finds Mariano and John crafting a deep, techno creation that sits as a great complement to 'Syracusse'. Anchored by a fluid wall of sub bass the piece flows through a myriad of trippy motifs and ominous designs. Timely chord changes accent the rolling funk wonderfully before a band of clustered effects initiates the main break. A centrepiece to tantalise the mind, aquatic designs are met with a wave of white noise as one final rush of beats takes you into a third act of melancholic meanderings.

The last release from Flow Vinyl was back in July 2016, but don't let the low profile since then fool you: the label has been busy preparing their next trio of releases, which include two from Oovation and one from Rich Curtis, all to say a great 2017 start. First up is 'Falter' by Oovation feat. Amber Long and the wait has been more than worth it. 'Falter' is classic Flow Vinyl material: melodic progressive house, expertly produced with an infectious vocal and enough bite for tougher dancefloors.

Oovation is the production name of Pierre Bonaventura from Saarbrücken in Germany, and he has become one of the hottest young producers on the progressive techno scene. After several strong releases, it's only natural that he brings his sound to Flow Vinyl and that the results are very impressive indeed. 'Falter' features the vocals of regular collaborator Amber Long, and it's a mesmerizingly beautiful track full of swirling synths and dramatic energy. In true Oovation style, it has a haunting, darker edge too, which is fully complemented by Long's sensuous voice.

First up on the remix is Switchbox – the partnership of Götz Bökler and Nik Bohn from Cologne – who push the percussion of the original to the forefront to create a seriously funked-up slice of deep techno. Brilliantly crafted, their version is an eight-minute epic of ghostly melodies and far-out effects. The second remix comes from Juan Deminicis from Buenos Aires, an established member of the Flow Vinyl crew, who delivers a minimal-style, almost ambient reworking. With its spacey synths and stripped-back vocal, it has the feel of an imaginary soundtrack, and perfectly complements the other two versions to create a package of light and shade to suit all tastes.

PREMIERE: Oovation feat. Amber Long - Falter (Juan Deminicis Remix) [Flow Vinyl]

Fledgling electronic live act UNDERHER have announced the release of their third official EP, ‘Mercy’. Due for release on their own imprint IAMHER, the package includes two original UNDERHER tracks, ‘Mercy’ and ‘Strung’, plus remixes from French production duo The Dualz, Greek Hotworkz label boss Harri Agnel, upcoming Austrian producer dörfler, and New Yorker Allies For Everyone. 

‘Mercy’ is a reflective ode to feelings of guilt in a relationship breakdown, expressed through Jessica’s ethereal vocals over Kalden’s subtly progressing downtempo electronic production. In the band’s own words: “The inspiration for Mercy came from a fallout with a friend and accepting the change that losing them brought to life. It also touches on the concept of being kind to yourself in moments where all you want to do is blame yourself for the way things turned out.”   The Dualz add drama to the track with layers of evocative synth chords and a dramatic breakdown, whilst Harri Agnel strips the track back completely, letting Jessica’s vocals sing over a looping acoustic guitar. 

Meanwhile, ‘Strung’ is “a confession of wanting so badly to be enough for someone and in the process of doing so deteriorating emotionally”. New York DJ, producer and radio host Allies For Everyone pushes the track into late night territory, whilst dörfler - who also featured on the Dark Souls EP - delivers a sunset dancefloor friendly take on the track that the duo have teased in their recent podcasts. 

This EP is just the latest development in an exciting chapter for Kalden Bess and Jessica Abruzzese, better known as UNDERHER. After a long period of teasing their music online and building up an organic fanbase, they turned in official remixes for Moby, U2 and Booka Shade, followed by their first EP, ‘Inside’ in October 2018, and second EP ‘Dark Souls’ in November. The pair’s unique sound caught the ear of Netflix executives, and now ‘Inside’, ‘Dark Souls’ & ‘Strained Are We’, and ‘Mercy’ (Harri Agnel Remix) have featured in Danish series The Rain, Spanish series Elite and Italian series Baby respectively.  

UNDERHER’s incredible live performances - with Jessica on vocals and Kalden on a full electronic setup - have also seen them support the likes of HVOB and SOHN, and play festivals and club shows internationally such as Stereo Montreal, Piknic Électronik, Uberhaus Beirut, Sisyphos and Katerblau Berlin, and Blue Marlin Dubai.

Swiss-Chilean artist Masaya, boss of her own label Mina Records, delivers her very first full length LP via ever-impressive UK imprint Chapter 24 this March (release set for Friday, March 10th). Masaya has assembled an emotive, long-winding journey that engrosses the listener over eleven carefully crafted cuts. We're very excited to bring you a sliver of the release in the form of an exclusive premiere. Today, we shine the spotlight on 'The Backstage', this is a tense, brooding production that kicks into action in the third quarter with a barrage of violent synth stabs running over a chunky low end groove.
