TRENCH Radio: 9 Of The Best Mixes This Week

Mixing up modern tracks, classic disco and some of his own productions, Frankie plays a party set of extended mixes, kicking off with his and Eric Kupper’s sumptuous arrangement of Donna Summer’s “Hot Stuff. Taking in original disco with Lou Rawl’s “You’ll Never Find A Love Like Mine”, the soulful, gospel tinges are put up against the tougher elements and classic pianos  of Spencer Parker & Dan Beaumont’sThe Look.

With classic vocal American garage tunes like the tightly wrought Dbow “Get Involved” and the effortlessly but sublimely tuned dub of Eric Kupper’s “Disco Revenge” midway through the set, Frankie then turns to a Hacienda classic, the David Morales Defmix version of Juliet Robert’s “Caught In The Middle”, a record which had the original Hacienda spellbound back in 1993.

Taking it deeper to the close, the deep bassline and twisted soul of Alfredo Azzetto’s remix of “The Word Is Love” is followed by  Frankie’s homage to New York’s Sound Factory with his tribal disco remix of Sounds Of Blackness “The Pressure Pt 1”, itself a Knuckles classic. To end, he then brings in Black Legend’s, “You See The Trouble With Me” before rounding up with Robert Gaez’s re-rub of Frankie’s “Get Over U”.

A great set from one of house music’s undoubtedly legendary figures, This Is Frankie Knuckles.

Producing euphoric, rave contorting drum & bass seems to be Tom Mundell's special skill. As Metrik he'd already released on labels like Viper, Spearhead and Shogun Audio before he signed exclusively with Hospital Records but since then he's further underlined those early shades of promise with his self titled debut EP on the label and worldwide tours. Ahead of a 2014 that's reportedly stacked with big projects he's taken the time to thread a dancefloor focused narrative throughout this 32 minute mix, made ahead of his upcoming appearance in Room Two on Friday 18th April.

And that's what Leipzig/Germany based Marcel Sterling alias Marc DePulse wants to tell us with his releases and podcasts: there is no box into which you must fit in because you are free in your mind to do whatever you love. Being real, being authentic, being a full time music lover. That means: go to bed and wake up with only music in your head.

Whoever shed some tears while listening to emotional music can relate to what Marc is trying to achieve. It has to be “music to remember” and make a big impact. And that could be a melody, a baseline, steady percussion or strong vocals. Marc has already connected a lot of that love with his music. In more than a decade represented by the strongest labels (150+ releases) and performing on the biggest international stages, Marc has established as a unique producer and DJ.

After releases and remixes on Noir Music, Traum Schallplatten, Definition:Music, Katermukke, Selador – just to name a few – Marc is currently working on his second artist album which will be released in 2017 on his homebase label Einmusika Recordings.

According to his own productions, Marc is running the rising label JEAHMON! Records and opened another platform for the artists origins. “How I Met The Bass” is a storyteller podcast project which became a big brand yet."

Unsere Lieblinge Geju sollten uns eigentlich mit einem speziellen Podcast beglücken. Dies musste aber erst Mal auf Eis gelegt werden, denn die beiden Musiker sind momentan sehr gefragt. Zudem werden Sie bald neue Produktionen veröffentlichen, die es in sich haben.

Als 'Entschädigung' erhielten wir ihr Live-Set vom diesjährigen Mayan Warrior Camp. Say what? Ich bin beim Hören nicht mehr aus dem Grinsen herausgekommen und hoffe, dass es euch mindestens genauso gut gefällt, wie mir. Passend zu den letzten Sonnenstrahlen des Jahres 'schwooft' das Set gemächlich und mit einer Menge Leichtigkeit über die auditiven Felder unseres Bewusstseins. Wahrlich zum Verlieben. Übrigens sind in dem Set schon mehrere Neuerscheinungen enthalten...

Two years ago Edinburgh-based producer Nick Moore, aka Linkwood, released the follow-up to his debut LP System. Titled Expressions, and taking five years to finish, the album went on to receive rave reviews, with many publications tipping its greatness in their end-of-year lists for 2015. Synonymous with the label Firecracker, having been good friends with its founder Lindsay Todd since its inception, the pair kicked off the imprint with a bang, releasing the still much sought after "Miles Away" as their label's debut. A low-slung house anthem, with outstanding vocals by Joseph Malik and trumpet by Colin Steele, the track paved the way for Firecracker, ensuring Nick's irregular but breathtaking productions had a home, and an audience pawing after their beautifully designed records. We caught up with Nick to discuss his thoughts on past albums, his time spent in Bristol, collaborations with his brother Tim and the news of a forthcoming label called AD. His Truancy Volume, weaving in sounds in touch with classic electro alongside some more ethereal-sounding selections, is a blissful display showcasing his often overshadowed DJ skills. With music from ERP, Rhythim Is Rhythim, SUED 013 and more, you're in safe hands for the next hour.

The french Dj, producer and journalist taunt us with a wonderful mix that goes from dub to dancehall and rap to the interstellar R&B of Kelis and The Neptunes. "The important thing for me, tells Christelle Oyiri, aka Crystallmess, is to show that you don’t necessary have to play techno for a rave. I love techno music, but you can get the same excitement and energy by playing non-traditional rave sounds. That’s what I wanted to do with that mix." And it works pretty well !
