The Drifter Boiler Room Berlin DJ Set

Yaya has grown up in Torino, in the resonant Babylon of his home, where the rhythms of his father’s, singer and leading voice of the ensemble M’bamina, drums prophesied a multi-ethnic Italy. Since his teens, he began with his interest in rhythm by performing as a drummer around the city. Until at the age of 17 when he purchased a pair of decks and soon his blood’s rhythm was taken over by an electronic turmoil driving him to house music. This soon had evolved into skills which became very noticeable to the one and only Loco Dice who falls in love with Yaya's afro-latin rumba and decides to record the Vecute EP. From then on Yaya's career spiralled into nothing but success. With his exclusive podcast for MEOKO you can deffinately see why that is. Yaya's ever so hybrid sound and vast track collection, as well as his obvious passion for drums comes to create this sonic journey of techno-house beats. Next up is a marathon mix from Irish producer and DJ, The Drifter. After an upbringing dabbling in different musical pursuits, from bands and choirs to folk and traditional, a love for electronic music was born from ventures into Dublin nightlife. A move to Berlin ensued soon after.

He excelled whilst DJing at his own night Passion Beat which he ran with Mano Le Tough for 3 years in Berlin. Together they built a strong residency and from this set up their own label, Maeve, along with another close friend, Baikal. They all share the same love for emotive deep music and this has been at the forefront of the label’s releases and led to ties with heavyweight labels such as Innervisions.

In late 2012 he released his first solo work, the ‘Lovers’ EP, on Permanent Vacation. His 'Again' EP on Maeve came out earlier this year along with two tracks on Permanent Vacation. Keep an eye out for him and his label; they sure are ones to watch in the long run.

For forty breathless minutes we wait… until at last the sun breaks over the horizon, and a collage of verbal musings, psychedelia and ornate music fills the air.  Toying with echoes and teasing with nuance, shutters fluttering to capture the fleeting moment…a moment not soon forgotten for those who were lucky enough to be there, at sunrise on Sunday, Black Rock City, Burning Man, 2014.   And then, just as easily as we are led into that place, a whole movement of sound and energy returns the dance floor.
