The track Prozac, see’s Trilo take a slightly deeper approach to his compositions. Cavernous dubwise stabs combine with his unique shadow laden, cinematic soundscapes to great effect, before the tune launches like a full frontal military assault, into emotion tinged screw faced madness. Stomping enough for the ravers and detailed enough for armchair warriors alike. A slick take on how far you can push the DnB framework whilst still retaining enough clarity and punch for it to work on the dancefloor. Reminiscent of early Corrupt Souls & Stakka & Skynet.

Axwell’s Axtone Records are celebrating 10 years of the label and using the opportunity to showcase their finest assets both musically and visually. 

To that end, Axtone are releasing a limited edition box set with 500 copies worldwide, the contents of which includes: 3 ‘marbled’ vinyl including 12 fan picked tracks (many of which have never been available on the format), a 52 page ‘Axtone Art’ hardback book and a hand illustrated art print. The vinyl marbling process ensures each individual vinyl is completely unique, whilst every box is individually numbered. Accompanying the box set will be a digital album that includes new and exclusive music. 

From Axwell himself there's the french-touch inspired 'Waiting For So Long (Gloria)', a fresh take on Axwell’s 'I Found U' from genre-defying Fono, Shapov feat. Justin Tranter 'Our World' and Adrian Lux 'Torn Apart (Klahr Remix)'; the latter 2 tracks, a nod to the future sound of the label from exciting new talent on the roster. In all, the digital album features 44 tracks that feature Axtone classics throughout the past decade, acting as both time capsule and crystal ball. 

For a label that’s so synonymous with owner and talisman Axwell, it may be surprising to many that there’s an artist that has appeared on even more releases than Mr Hedfors himself… Axtone art director, Jens Grönberg. The final piece of Axtone Ten is completed with a short film directed by fellow Swede André Hedetoft, delving deeper into Jens’ story, revealing “The Man Behind The Artworks”. Featuring never seen before archive footage of a fresh-faced Axwell, Jens regales us with some choice anecdotes from their long friendship and gives a fascinating insight into the processes behind his work.

Axwell: “To celebrate ten years of Axtone, along with some of our favourite tracks, I wanted to showcase the talents of Jens Grönberg who has been behind the label aesthetic from the start. Without him, Axtone wouldn’t be Axtone”.

Document One – Run the Block / Small Steps

It hasn't taken long for Document One to define their own niche among the Technique Recordings roster. Brimming with multi-genre experience, this team has come well-equipped with a fresh and clean production style, overt musicality and uncompromising levels of funk. This release reasserts their commitment to the dancefloor while showing off yet more colours from their palette.

“Run the Block” takes the tough but smoky sound that Document One has made their own and adds a layer of East Coast hip-hop flavour. The rap-along vocal, that trademark upright and synthetic bass fusion, the popping drums and live-instrument arrangement combine to make this tune a definitive statement of Document One's musical heritage. And of course, that means it has that jazzfunk dancefloor energy in abundance.

Then “Small Steps” flips the script, darkening things up in a way you might not be expecting from these guys. The intro is the sound of approaching menace, as military drums call the dance to order. An eerie dialogue sample ratchets up the tension, before a building kick pattern is deployed as a call-to-arms. Then the drop is all about those twisted tendrils of bass, snaking around techstep drums and ghost-in-the-machine stabs. This is what happens when musicality meets aggression on a hell-bent mission to mash up the rave.

So, as well as keeping a firm grip on their low-down dancefloor funking credentials, this release has proved that Document One have a love and talent for all sides of this music. As their track titles declare, they “Run the Block” in the funk neighbourhood and they're making “Small Steps” into the shadowy technoid realm. Now they've shown they can kill the dance in both, it's clear the Document One operation doesn't believe in boundaries.

Quelle Chris has recorded with plenty of producers but his bond with Chris Keys extends beyond music. After linking through mutual collaborator Roc Marciano, the two Chris’ became fast friends. About four years worth of hang-out sessions, bong hits, video games and take-out food culminated in 2Dirt4TV3: Innocent Country, a deceptively subtle character study of self disguised as an excellent piece of stoner headnod hip-hop. 

Throughout the 33 minutes that comprise Innocent Country, our two protagonists are in synch like a pair of Jaeger pilots. Though the LP certainly has instances of energy and aggression, “Madness In The Oasis” and “Where The Wild Things Roam” are two, more often than not it lives within introspective mid-tempo moments like the languid “Nothing Moves.” Quelle is the wayward MC waxing bittersweet on the reflective “Well Running Deep,” filling Chris Keys’ sweeping string samples with palpable nostalgia. Our peregrine rapper is the lowkey consummate artist, powerful enough to give a rousing performance on the moving “I Asked God,” then turn on a dime and nail the hilarious and self-effacing “Drugfest TooThousandToo.” 

Upon repeated listens, one might see that Innocent Country speaks to the blissful naivete of youth. It’s the soundtrack to self-medication as an escape from reality, but it doesn’t jump ship before the inevitable moment of clarity. Innocent Country is a party, but it’s also the morning after and the day before. A sweet experience on the surface, this is therapy billed as reefer night at your man’s spot.

Czech drum & bass label Authentic Music has announced the release of its second compilation album, Art Of Deception, and DT has secured the 2-track sampler for an exclusive first listen!

The 15-track effort features work from the likes of Sunchase, Signal and Arp XP, and was put together over the last year by head honcho Panorama, who hopes the LP will redefine his label's sound. "I want to work towards having a signature style that you can easily recognise," he says via press release. "We want to bring back that classic Drum & Bass sound peppered with a dash of modern engineering. It's something that has been sort of vanishing in the past few years."

Art Of Deception is set to drop February 22nd, but ahead of that comes the sampler (out February 8th via Juno, and a week later everywhere else). Offering 'Solidify' - a slippery, heads-down roller from UK duo Revaux - and a halcyon remix of Definate's 'Towards The Dawn' by ArpXP, the sampler has us itching for the full release already. Although it is nearly three years after the release of my first album, I started on Untold Stories back in 2008. Inspired by Francesco Pico’s ‘Imagining Sounds’ and Sasha’s ‘Involver’ series, it all began with an idea of producing an uninterrupted album. I wanted tracks to blend into each other, to create a sense of listening to a continuous piece of music instead of going from one track to the next. As you can imagine, things always seem so much easier than they are. Untold Stories at times seemed to know as much technical as inspirational problems. However, at the beginning of 2010, nearly 18 months after work commenced, everything fell into place and I was able to put the last pieces together. I truly hope you enjoy listening to Untold Stories. It reflects everything I have loved about music in the past years.
