Dumbo at night, under the Brooklyn Bridge. We were coming from the  record release party for Timo Maas and Kelis. Martin and I were completely "desolate" in a taxi—the sunrise, the CITY LIGHTS.

From NYC, I went to Ibiza, and then back to the studio. DYNAMITE LOVE was, and still is, Ibiza for me.

Locked Groove marks his return to Hotflush with the grandiose, puzzlingly-titled "Enigma". It's a colossal record whose bass-centric melody looms large. Large enough, even, to inspire what is nowadays a rare Scuba remix. 

A counterpoint to these theatrics comes in the way of 'Wandering In A Cage', a broken-beat creeper flaunting the Belgian's ear for subtlety, and two beatdown versions of the title track that fit neatly into your DJ toolbox.

If Richie Hawtin and Damian Lazarus are giving you a nod of approval, then you're obviously doing it right. 

That's just the case for Brazilian producer Anna, who got props from the two after releasing the 'Let Me Take You' EP on Tiga's Twin Turbo in October last year. That, along with other releases on Tronic, Pleasurekraft's Kraftek and Witty Tunes, is just as chunky as the reputations of those dishing out support.

'Pleasure' is a bouncy and baseline-driven affair, one that resembles the sound in BB's older productions. It's naughty by nature and drives along nicely until it hits the three minute mark where some outrageous vocal cuts come crashing in. Great stuff.

Jamie Jones’ revered label Hot Creations is back with another hotly-anticipated EP. ‘Wobble Talk’ comes courtesy of Toronto-based DJ & producer Nathan Barato and features Sasha Brown.

‘Talk On’ featuring Sasha Brown displays Barato’s skill at building and releasing the pressure. Opening with rattling percussion and hi-hats, a rumbling bassline kicks in whilst the echoing, chopped-up samples of Sasha’s vocals are teased in and out. Two breakdowns build tensions until the full vocals become more evident and recognisable, the refrain of ‘Talk To Me Baby’ repeating until that rumbling bassline kicks back in.
‘Wobble Back’ is a more straightforward affair. A low-pitched ‘wobbling’ synth melody over the top of skipping hi-hats and a thumping bass forms the backbone of the track, whilst various samples and sounds echo in and out. A sparse breakdown towards the end of the track gives the track an extra punch when the bassline kicks back in.

Nathan’s profile has been rapidly rising of late, with previous releases on Cajual, MOOD, Relief, Saved and Circus Records as well as house stalwarts Defected. His worldwide touring schedule has been gathering pace, not just across his native Canada and the US, but also in Ibiza – he played Paradise, Do Not Sleep and Music On this season – and major events and venues across Europe; ADE, We Are FSTVL and The Warehouse Project to name a few.

The latest single taken from No Fantasy Required, “Blondes Have More Fun,” is accompanied by a trio of remixes from contemporary electronica royalty: prolific Swedish producer on-the-rise Jonas Rathsman, Running Back boss Gerd Janson, and international house and techno breakout du jour, The Black Madonna.

I didn’t have too long to turn it around in between touring! But it all came together so quickly and I’m super happy with the way it came out. San Francisco-based Butane makes his debut on Jamie Jones’ Hottrax with three hypnotizing productions this October.

Founder of Alphahouse and Little Helpers, Andrew Rasse aka Butane has been building a solid reputation as a respectable DJ, producer and label owner for over a decade now. When not releasing his low-slung dancefloor focused cuts on his own imprints the multifaceted American has made appearances on SCI+TEC, Crosstown Rebels and Moan. He now appears on Hottrax joining a roster spanning wAFF, Patrick Topping, Mat.Joe, Bunte Bummler, Raumakustik, Dms12 and Jamie himself.

A gentle thud initiates ‘Addicted’, making way for a throbbing synth that warps and distorts throughout the mix whilst a fuzzy bassline operates beneath it. ‘Lock and Key’ focuses on intricate percussion whilst dusky atmospherics and a medley of nuances are introduced throughout before ‘Shark Attack’ concludes the package with a rumbling low-end and compelling groove.

Butane ‘Addicted’ EP drops on Hottrax on 21st October 2016.

A transcendent state in which there is neither suffering, desire, nor sense of self. Our next excursion brings us to the idea of ‘Nirvana’. Self described as psychedelic techno, Franz Alice Stern leads the release with a trance-like, meditative track. 

Miss Melera makes her Polymath debut with a deep and melancholic trip. With important releases on Chapter 24 Records, and Berlin’s Traum Schallplatten, we felt Nirvana was a fitting theme for the artist. As uplifting as it is dark, the track builds momentum through an infectious groove. A break makes space for new musical ideas, until a final climax ends in a melodic release.

Marseille duo, Fathers, take a different approach. Gentle melodies flitter in and out of the ear adding to the refreshing mood.

Coming out as the first release on the new Format label is Rondevu's 'What goes around' EP.

Beginning with our Debut Transmission 'What goes around' The driving bass sets in from the outset with a rolling repetition of vocals delving towards the peak before the heavy hitting drop. The breakdown half way through builds the suspense for the second drop, that is as heavy as the first.

Moving into the B side; 'I know now' this track showcases Rondevu's dark side with a rolling underground raw bass with an edgy vocal that sits well above the layers. This repetition throughout the track heightens the dips and troughs bringing home the menacing nature of the release. Expect plenty more tracks like this from Rondevu.
