In the early 90’s I recorded a mixtape called Sector 101, it was popular for some time and I got to play part of this set on Power Toolz 106 FM which was a DJ radio show broadcast in Los Angeles on Saturday nights (this is where I met Richard Humpty-Vision, Tony B, Sweedish Egil, and Gerry Meraz).  This is also when I started to play DJ sets on Sweedish Egil’s Groove Radio and KSPC.  I put a link to my original mixtape recording below.  Back then DJs were making lots of mixtapes to hand out to promoters and fans, it was like a DJ’s business card.  We also had to deal with the 90 minute hard time limit, 45 minutes per side of an audio cassette tape, which was pretty annoying.  In the Fall of 2023 I decided to continue this mixtape series and released Sector 303, so now here is the 3rd mix in the series, Sector 606! Sector 606

While many DJs started as musicians in other genres or by picking up the decks, Super Progressive’s journey has been different. Turn back the clock to 2021, and you’ll find William Noglows, the man behind the name, taking his first steps into the wider world of electronic music. He wasn’t initially spinning on decks or toying around in the studio. Instead, his approach was through an interview-fueled podcast that was launched with the intention of educating the masses.

Since then, the Super Progressive podcast has grown immensely, especially on Instagram, where the account has amassed over 100,000 followers in just a few short years. The core of this series is his conversations with legendary artists and forward-thinking fresh faces, all of which explore the past, present, and future of progressive house music. Guests have included the likes of Danny Tenaglia, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Danny Howells, Dave Seaman, Yotto, Ezequiel Areas, Quivver, and, most recently, Paul Van Dyk.

Super Progressive’s success has led to the emergence of branded shows in London that have sold out, as well as gaining a nod as a brand partner for Balance Croatia this summer. That isn’t all, as he’s flexed his skills behind the decks along the way. Not only has Super Progressive warmed up the stage for talented artists in the progressive house realm, but he’s also hosted a residency at Manchester’s Progmatic event series and played Skyline in Glasgow.

Recently I've been captivated by progressive breaks, thanks in large part to my friend Nathan who put me on to Framewerk's exclusive Bandcamp releases. Inspired by their amazing "rewerks", I have started building out my library of progressive breaks.

This mix will hopefully be the first in a series of progressive breaks mixes. A little sideproject from my usual blend of deep/progressive house + indie. My library for this stuff is only very small at the moment, so excuse the prevalence of big names 🙈

I recorded this mix in hospital, only 11 days after major surgery, using rekordbox and a Xone K2 controller. I was exhausted after about 60 minutes, but pushed on to finish the mix. And even though you can feel my energy draining in the back end of the mix, I still thought it was worth sharing. I think it's a great mix!

Finally, given the mix is a prototype for this side project, but it still hits the mark, I thought Sidewinder was a good name. The AIM-9A was the designation for the original prototype of this workhorse missile, and seemed a fitting title.
