The spacecraft burst into the galaxy in a flash of light, exiting the lanes of hyperspace with the grandeur that intergalactic travel of that sort demanded. Made of advanced neometal alloys, its hull seemed to shimmer and glisten with an iridescent glow that warped and refracted the light of nearby stars around the craft. To the naked eye it appeared as though a mirage, and even the advanced sensors of many spacefaring empires would have trouble locating its exact position amidst the surrounding chromatic milieu.

Hailing from uncertain origins, its appearance was spoken of in hushed tones within the war rooms of this galaxy’s nations, for it was not known to be either friend or foe and bore no identifying insignia to mark its place of construction. The subspace pace it proceeded at was not rushed but yet bore a certain urgency, as though the ship stalked some unknown quarry from afar. No hails had been returned and no attempts to scan its interior had borne fruit, and thus on the planets below populations watched with anxious awe as it continued on whilst praying that it did not take specific notice of their lives. Thus it was that what could only be called the STARSHIP entered into galactic knowledge, and none yet knew where its course might lead.

DESPERSION debuts his devious first EATBRAIN release with the STARSHIP EP, which brings the label’s horde to intergalactic heights across the three tracks contained within. A rising star form Russia, DESPERSION’s prior releases have landed on labels including SLK Records, Empire Recordings, and Neuropunk Recordings, the latter being the imprint label of Eatbrain regulars Gydra & Teddy Killerz. Channeling the sonic energy gathered from these prior experiences, the STARSHIP EP shoots by at breakneck speed, overflowing with sci-fi textures and devastating bassline bombardments that follow the trend set by its name.

Jack Mirror is a staple within the Viper Recordings camp, a producer and DJ who’s gone from newcomer to mainstay member following a string of high profile releases which have seen support amongst tastemakers such as UKF and BBC Radio 1. And now collaborating with Kove, an artist who’s paved himself a place within the annals of drum & bass. The producers combine two heavyweight production styles for a release under the Viper Recordings banner.

Kove is a familiar face on Viper and his return is marked by Jack Mirror, with the sonics of both combining for forthcoming single ‘Placebo’. An intro pulsating with thick subs, climbing step by step into a foreboding first breakdown and flipping kick drum sequences, the record drops into subterranean levels. Kove and Jack Mirror go for the jugular with this release, never allowing you up for air as you’re kept down in the deep reverberating bass of ‘Placebo’. Sometimes known for their more euphoric tracks, this upcoming cut offers the flip side of the pair’s darker production standard.

Viper Recordings add a moodier delivery for the lighter months but it’s the perfect accompaniment for late into a summer night in the dance. Jack Mirror and Kove are taking the lead with this, with ‘Placebo’ proving to be an exciting comeback for each producer.

Mayan Audio presents the 'Kalima Ep' an insight to the labels variety of styles from Mayan's home grown talent with this colossus 5 track sacrifice. This truly is the beginning of something special with the Ep showcasing the fresh new talent Mayan has to offer!

The five tracks on Kalima will broaden your palette of what drum & bass can be, so prepare yourselves for a trip. Opening track Lazer Eye, from Tuff Touch, is a bouncing, storming break-led intro to the EP, which cuts and rips its way into reality. Don’t you dare sleep on this one, it’s red hot. This is closely followed by Phobia, by Traced. With just a touch of the old skool, the producer creates an entire world, in which the beats fly by at breakneck speed and the basslines leave you breathless. A massive track, and no mistake.
Next, jump into The Summons, by the one Roklo. Pure fire in the dance on this one, as it builds and drops like a waterfall. Electronic pulses help to push the track on, with clashing samples and enough weight to move mountains. Mayan have varied the flavours on the EP, but all of the tracks are united with a sense of purpose and direction. The EP showcases what the music is and what it can be in the right hands, hands like those of Mayan Audio. Next stop is Kritix, who provides the VIP of Traction, featuring Coppa. This one’s simply huge, and forms a fitting fix up to what became an underground anthem with the original.
The closing track forms in the shape of the dramatic Fade To White, from White Room. Breaks smash through this one, matched with epic, emotional piano and affecting vocals. Again this one has a classic feel to it, and will be rinsed up and down the nation in the clubs and on the radio.
Kalima will be simply massive, but don’t just take our word for it, check it out for yourself.
