A four-track melodic jungle release from Black Barrel might not be what you expected, but he continues to impress and demonstrate his versatility again. His sound has continued to evolve and explore new musical grounds across his many releases for Dispatch. Just as you think you can identify his trademark elements, he switches things up in new and exciting ways.

This selection of tracks instinctively found their home on Dispatch Dubplate; a collection of mid-90s inspired tunes with an Omni Trio / Essence of Aura vibe, pure jungle deepness and added Black Barrel flair. Built with layers of classic era sounds each track reveals a new side to his production across four deep cuts.

True to the nature of the Dispatch Dubplate range, these tracks have already been circulating on dub for some time and have been getting a lot of love. Goldie is a huge fan of Black Barrel’s melodic jungle takes and tried to bag these 4 for Metalheadz at a later stage after road-testing them out at clubs and festivals.

There are few creatures on earth as recognisable as the flamingo. With their eye-catching hot pink get-ups, these gangly birds are famous for their flamboyant group dances like feathered ravers. Most of us associate them with tropical fun, colourful cocktails and summer sunsets, but flamingos are fragile and extremely vulnerable to climate change. As the planet heats up, there's less rainfall which shrinks the swampy lagoons where flamingos find their food and encourages toxic algae and deadly bacteria to thrive. Plus if predators like pythons and coyotes start running out of food too, they target flamingos even more. Flamingos are adorably monogamous and lay just one egg a year, making them slow to reproduce if disaster strikes. We don’t see these long-term impacts right away so it’s easy to push out of mind, but we need to act now if we want to keep these legendary birds dancing. PROT3KT will donate all proceeds to Nature And Biodiversity Conservation Union(NaBu).

Off-License Records had originally signed the 'Eternal Sin' EP several months ago, alongside a single track for the 'Reduced To Clear' series. However, just before the intended release of the latter, news of Josh's tragic passing in a car accident surfaced. In reaching out to his family, there arose the question of whether to proceed with these planned releases. The family expressed their desire for Josh's music to persist in finding an audience. Reports indicated Josh had a substantial collection of tracks, including a full EP, awaiting release at a later time.

For those who come across this message, it's important to note that the entirety of the proceeds generated from this EP will be directed back to Chill Collective's family and close circle. The decision was made not to retain the typical share for the record label, as supporting Josh's family took precedence over any label gains. Gratitude was extended to the mastering house, ION Digital, for their contribution in mastering these tracks without charge. Additionally, heartfelt appreciation was conveyed to all who had already shown support for Josh's previous release, Salvation (OLRTC011).

In moments like these, the Drum & Bass community's essence of love, respect, and communal support shines through. These values are foundational to the genre and continue to resonate. Rest in peace, Josh. May the enduring legacy of your music remain a testament to your spirit. <3
