INDEX:Records alum vase (aka Downstairs People; games) and label-head Conna Haraway team up as ‘Department’ to deliver a two-track mini-epic of sprawling brooding soundscapes and future-facing rhythms, via finely chiseled abstract outbursts and widescreen cinematic depth of field. (Additional live instrumentation comes courtesy of Glasgow-based staev, and INDEX:Rec affiliate MCRD supplies intuition suggestions.)

Starting off as a proper serene slice of beatless musing, 'Cogent' slowly hatches into a rhythmic shape-shifter combining the immersive power of elastic sound membranes with the incisiveness of post-industrial breaks, leaning towards IDM-oid fractals and signature UK bass menace.

All in vaporous piano chords (cue: staev), heavily dubbed-out layers and FX-coated emotion, 'Recovery' beckons us onto the path of soulful elation with its poignant melange of brittle stabs and skittish drum patterns gone astray. Dark and solar at once, the track blends cavernous entrancement with verbed-out RnB samples and percussive trenchant on a steely, broken techno tip.

Ethereal like a mirage yet daunting as the four elements boiling up a storm, Department's debut two-tracker is an elusive piece of sewn-together sketches exuding the sheer magnitude of a master painting in sound.

New York City based Further Reductions is the live project from husband and wife Shawn (aka Vapauteen, 400ppm, Let Er Est) and Katie O'Sullivan (aka Rose E Kross, ppG). Back in 2014 they released their gorgeous debut album on Cititrax records. The album was an adventurous trip, where they pushed forward a unique sound. After all those years there will be a follow up to this EP on Knekelhuis. Expect a fusion of different sounds, grimy and pretty at the same time.

Transmission incoming from Mr. Incognito's secret lab. Rat Life presents eight psycho acoustic models made by the low key East German producer. You probably never heard of him, but he is doing this thing since half an eternity. Rather than playing a lot of shows he focuses on studying the craft of electronic sound manipulation and what else can be said that: he is on top of his game! He shows us that it is still possible to create sonic structures that are beyond the usual by just using classic devices such as the TR 808 rhythm composer and a TB 303 monophonic synthesizer. Three tracks that are pulsating with raw European-electro vibes, with the finest machine-funk arrangements which is carried on to the B-side with w1b0 offering a more intense package. Deemphasis is a french producer specializing in electro, acid and vocoder.
Originally from northern france, deemphasis was influenced in the late 80s by german, english, detroit and belgian techno sounds. in the 90s, he is very involved in the "demoscene" and uses "sound-tracker" to make music. Nowadays, he always uses the same approach.
it was at this time that he settled in clermont-ferrand, in the early 2000s, he began to do some concerts and he turned gradually to electro.

In 2010, deemphasis released its first 12 "ep" synthetic cells "on the umwelt label, newflesh records. Then, several ep and his famous album "mechanical beats" on ukonx recordings.

In this ep, deemphasis explores some of the feelings one can encounter in a post-apocalyptic world.
The opening title "my empire" is clearly oriented towards the dance floor and features a surviving robotic voice in a hostile environment.
An acid base consolidates the melancholy atmosphere.
The remix of "my empire" by the french producer "the observer" is a journey with some hypnotizing effects, deep experience and ongoing melodies take will take you to a different dimension, sounds rythmic, mysterious and variable... this remix are like a poetical description of some non-human race or nature of another dimension....

The b side begins with the track "obsession", presenting a long journey in the darkness. The mechanical rhythm sounds like a dehumanized factory fighting against continuous pressure.
The ep ends with a touch of hope, looking for a « rebirth », contemplating the galaxy full of stars.
