After a stunning first released tune on W133DVA01 Aysun returns to W133 with their debut solo EP! The currently Berlin-based artist is a very dedicated DJ, live performer and radio host connecting the Berlin and NYC electronic music scenes. We are more than happy that they recently started shaping their enticing live sets into 4 full-length tunes they present on INFRACULTURE. The EP starts with a shimmering downtempo opener where soft pads interlace with micro-detailed ear–tickle percussion. Café del ASMR pairs the intimacy of binaural beats with the lush atmospheres of ’90s café chill compilations. Layered synth textures and warm low-end basslines create a sense of personal closeness within a spacious mix; nostalgia reframed for the YouTube generation. The second tune “delulu” builds on a contemporary soft-club groove. It blends nu-jazz chord voicings with fluid drum programming and airy melodic motifs. It channels the Witch archetype, emotionally perceptive, but never overly soft, moving with an aura of secrecy. Swung percussion, muted bass plucks, and synth flourishes combine to form a sound that’s both club-ready and quietly introspective. Afterward “Low Power Mode” which is built on chunky, loose-grooved drums and the ambiance of The Sims 1 soundtrack, folds trip-hop rhythms into a smoky, slow-burning composition. It moves with the ease of late-night listening, somewhere between nostalgia and simulation. Lastly the minimal yet full of detail “iykyk” closes the EP with a slowed-down reflection on the fast language of online life. Its slowness, wrapped in a contemporary downtempo feel, counterbalances the velocity of digital culture, letting each moment breathe. The track moves at Berlin’s walking pace, unhurried but charged with intent, playing with the intimacy of inside jokes and shared language.

"Exploraciones" is Shika Shika's new series of releases that unite together two artists from different corners of the world to collaborate on a track and then bring that track to a group of artists to edit or remix. 

For this first session we invited two artists we hugely respect: Chilean trio Matanza and Turkish producer Oceanvs Orientalis. We then invited Jhon Montoya (Colombia / Italy), Carrot Green (Brazil) and History of Colour (Argentina / UK / Mexico) making this a truly global expedition!!

Drunken Foreigner Band plays an idiosyncratic electrified version of the Akha and Lam Lao musics of Thailand and Laos. As their name indicates in its provocatively self-deprecating way, the band could be viewed as yet another bunch of exotica-obsessed white males blindly pillaging a little known indigenous musical treasure. But far from being the work of post-colonial bandits, the band's passionate tribute is based on mostly vocal music learned from cassette tapes gathered by keyboardist Dave Kadden on trips to Southeast Asia. Comprising members of Sunwatchers, Invisible Circle and other experimental Brooklyn outfits, their debut LP will be available January 12th, 2018 on Electric Cowbell Records.

On the ‘Lotus’ EP, Yør Kultura reveals a more melodic side of their musical realm. Gritty synth lines, strong percussion work and rolling basses invoke the spirits of places not yet discovered. Mysterious vocal samples sing the blues on this journey through various psychedelic worlds. The sultan of hamam swing Mehmet Aslan, crafts a sublime version of 'Willow' on B2, giving a Turkish twist by adding extra guitars and percussions. 33 & 45rpm playback is tested and highly recommended.

[MAGIC08] Yør Kultura - Willow [Preview]

The good son always comes back. But this time our dear Arutani brings together a collaborative digital extended play in the company of his beloved friends Dandara & Manuel Wassmer (Mawa). Titled as “Sunev”, the 4-track EP arises from the continuing friendship of these three, enhancing efforts and sharing their love with music on the Swiss collective LOKD. Underlining an open-minded approach, it contains two original tracks and two remixes. Arutani featured Dandara in the shining ‘Iridescent’ while Mawa remixed it. On the other hand, Sr. Wassmer shaped “Sunev” while Arutani remixed it. 

The collaboration took inspiration from the forgotten, mysterious planet of Venus – the dawn star, our closest planetary neighbor. It has no rings, no moons and spins slowly in the opposite direction from most planets. Put in symbolical terms, Venus the planet as well as the goddess and all her consorts, visages harbor attributes which are representing our ability to relate, the need to be desired and loved, the joy and the color of spring, the renewal of vegetation and life, the inebriation of the senses, to share emotions. 

Bearing this in mind and noticing that this EP relying upon their articulated desire to work closely together, the concept crosses further into a whirlwind of thoughts, feelings and emotions. And it reveals a subtlety only seems to be based on love, companionship, wholeheartedness and eagerness. Somehow, it fits as a soundtrack for a spatial odyssey (inner or outer), several sonic textures blended in with a hidden glitch melancholy, 

Iridescent came from an evening when Dandara was playing interesting melodies with his guitar, it ended up with Arutani following up, adding wistful chords and a immersed baseline. The final result evolve into something unexpected, to listen to when you feel in love with something or someone. Mawa did his homework remixing Iridescent with a reddish oblique love filter. However, in his original track “Sunev”, Mawa seems to explore a new directive, going through a slightly portentous moody aural, in order to celebrate the way in which female energy is crucial to the balance and consciousness of the collective, the track is set as a tribute. Glimpses below the clouds reveal volcano-beats on Arutani’s remix. 

After listening to this emotionally resonant EP, we hope you can fell these three were able to craft engaging tracks that evoke effective core elements of their musical aesthetics, suffused with an organic warmth. Reminding us why love is the driver for all great stories: not just romantic love, but the love for family, for universe, for what enraptured our hearts. We are the light that travels into space.
