Midnight Magic’s perennial disco anthem “Beam Me Up” announced itself as an instant classic from the moment of its release in 2010, and at long last the fellow Brooklynites joined us for a 10-year-anniversary package (minus one lost year) that once again establishes the timeless quality of the song with a fresh and versatile package of new remixes.

Norwegian space-disco don Prins Thomas delivers a sprawling and elegant mix, grounding melodic and psychedelic elements over a bumping percussive disco rhythm treatment, stretching out over 8 minutes of blissful breakdowns, delays and driving bass lines. Kim Ann Foxman takes the song to a darker and dubbier place with her “Beam Me To The Basement Mix,” layering samples of singer Tiffany Roth’s vocal and insistent acid synths over a heavy and pulsing low end. Each Other, a new project by Max Pask and NYC club royalty Justin Strauss, crafts an extended peak-time stormer of a mix, with churning analog drum and synth production that is somehow ravey, New-Wavey and lush all at once.

These three mixes truly capture an entire club night in one record, each a beautifully unique interpretation that showcases the inimitable talent and creativity of the remixers, and is also a testament to the enduring perfection of the original. When it comes to Disco-infused music, Nottingham-based producer Lanowa hits the spot! With a string of well-crafted productions released on the respected French label Citizens of Vice, his work has been backed up by important artists such as Dream Chimney, Ashley Beedle, Pete Herbert, PBR Streetgang, and Fred Everything.

Utilising soulful vocal samples, live instruments, and low-slung beats, Lanowa has crafted four beautiful original cuts for his forthcoming release that will only further enhance his growing reputation for creating music that brings a smile to your face and your feet to the dance floor.

“Thrill Me” is that kind of release that needs a cold drink to be slowly sipped while you appreciate the sophisticated sonority of the EP. What about a mojito? The traditional Cuban highball would be more than ideal to pair with Lanowa’s “Mojito”, whose recipe contains beautiful vocals, a stunning saxophone layer, a mellow piano lead, and a smooth synth pad as main ingredients. A collective of musicians devoted to walking the blurred lines that divide disco, funk, boogie and house, Kokoro Disco San first appeared on the RNT radar with their 2019 “Isla Fantasia” release on Rocafort Records. KDS now brings their uncanny ability to capture the mood and instrumentation of classic disco and soul with the uplifting summer anthem “Sunshine” and the Candido-esque sonic journey “Jungle Deep.” Rounding out the EP are two remixes of the title track by label co-head JKriv, who delivers an extended acidic exploration with his Beach Burn Mix, and a bumped up yet loving treatment of the original song with his SPF76 Mix.

Named after two of the three syllables their first names share, Rebekah Pennington and Rebecca Wilson are Ekkah, a Nu-Disco / Funk duo of multi-instrumentalists  from the U.K.  Creating relaxed dance floor bangers inspired by early 80s pop and R&B, Ekkah have reignited the need for a live disco sound which weaves soul, disco and funk into energetic pop tunes. Boasting features in editorial playlists, supporting Clean Bandit and millions of streams already, Ekkah are back with their newest single Waiting 4 You, except this time, Hot Toddy has taken the reigns of this beautiful little song. 

Hot Toddy is now in demand as a remixer, with his takes of Joey Negro, Mousse T, Lovebirds, and his gorgeous version of Crazy P’s ‘Never Gonna Reach Me’ getting props and plays from the likes of The Revenge, Tom Middleton, Pete Tong, King Britt, Tim Sweeney, Tensnake, and Jamie Jones, and Wolf and Lamb. This remix is one you want to hear, he knows what he's doing.

A beautiful dancy bop fit for any stage, dance floor and pool party is what Hot Toddy has created here. You can still just about get the hook from the vocals but they are chopped intelligently in time to the extra bounce added. This one has hit a really nice balance between vocal melody and beat - not too much, not too little. The keys in the background haunt the no mans land in the mix with their dark reverb and the chopped vocals add that extra bit of rhythm and texture to create a really lovely remix. The disco vibe pops through brilliantly and it's still so distinctly Ekkah, but now with the added flair and bounce of Hot Toddy. You get time to breath, absord and expel all of your energy with this track, all within just a few minutes

As the song draws to an end you get gifted that full hook you've been teased with throughout and it really is just a superbly structured song. I said the original was a chart topper, but this will be the one you hear in town, blasted through every sound system.

Landing back in 2020 @fsqofficial's Reprise Tonight album took 10 years to come to fruition and boy was it worth it. We all need heroes right? Among mine, American director & scriptwriter David Simon holds a pretty good ranking. We owe him some of the best thought-provoking, humanist & politically-conscious drama series of the modern TV era. Starting with the best of all (an unquestionable fact validated by...myself:), The Wire (2002/2008, HBO). 
Resonating all the more with me, music plays an integer part in David's work. That's obvious in his remarkable heartfelt appeal to post-Katrina New Orleans ("Treme", 2010/2013, HBO), but is also a common thread in all his productions.
His latest gem, "Show Me A Hero" (2015, HBO), is no exception to the rule. This mini-series evokes a true story from the late 70's/early 80's, depicting the struggles of a young Mayor in a NYC suburban town, to deal with social & racial cohesion in a stressed budgetary situation. 
Unsurpringly somehow, considering the "deep America" social themes at play here, Bruce Springsteen was a great fit to fill a spot in the show's soundtrack. His beautiful melancholic ballad, "Secret Garden", is omnipresent in each of the the miniseries 4 episodes. Here is a deep, balearic/slo-mo style rework I made of it.

Goz aka Mark from sunny West Lothian in Scotland after initially taking on the decks back in the 90s, he has re-found the spark in him since 2014 to start spinning again countless amounts of excellent tunes. A love of quality house, soul, funk, disco, hip hop and all top notch groovy edits he will deliver without fault excellent mix tapes.

He has put together a wonderful mix for us and when you skim through the track list you know you are in for a treat. This will be perfect to go with your early spring after work session, soaking up the last sun rays of the day, while gently tapping your foot to the Goz beats. 

He is part of a three man team along with Chris Tibs and Alex McCue who host The House Theory Radio Show every Saturday night between 8 and 10 pm. The show is part of www.Noisevandals.net and you can tune in via the iphone/Android app or TuneIn app. They also have their Facebook and Soundcloud pages.

Keeping things nice and sleazy Parisian producer Simon Says makes his debut on Eskimo Recordings covering English synth-pop band Blancmange's 1982 album track 'Feel Me'. 

Transforming the song into the kind of outrageously funky slice new wave disco that could have sat proudly on an old Ze Records compilation its low slung groove is now sure to soundtrack as many illicit 'Cinq a Sept' assignations as it is sweaty dancefloor moments.
