Fearful Wiggings. The title comes from a 1920s book of French stories.. I came across a new word and looked up in the glossary and the meaning was puts as “fearful wiggings’. I took it to mean “great anxiety”.
Fearful wiggings is a lyrically freewheeling kind of album. Elemental figures and scenes. Sex, myth, dream cities, shadows, invisibility (a recurring theme in my songs) and the very personal title track. Musically, it’s pretty simple and stark but every song could come from it’s own album. Frenchie (“je est un autre” and “flower of the earth” ) and Australian (“country roads, unwinding”). A best of from the future.

Everything was legendary with Robert is from Dave Graneys 2014 solo album FEARFUL WIGGINGS. 

The album has been a year in the making. Very minimal art pop in approach. This dynamic track leads us into it. Acoustic guitar, bass xylophone (like a Marimba) and thrilling percussion. Wild pop dynamics, the voice right out front like a 60s Country star should and massed , reverbed harmonies.

An elusive Pimpernel/Withnail  type figure. Dave Graney writes a song in a Ray Davies style. With a Bo Diddley / Latin feel.  

The recording features Dave Graney on driving acoustic, twin harmonizing electrics and bass. Clare Moore on percussion and bass xylophone.

The last few years have seen Graney and his band the mistLY blowing the roof off of small clubs with the jaw dropping electric guitar pop jams. .FEARFUL WIGGINGS is a new scene. A little folky - a little jazz in the chordings. A lot of countrypolitan in the vocal register and level in the mix. Drama, of course, and grooves. Kind of pop.

Described as “romantic, literate and thrilling” by the writer Lorna Scott Fox, Storm the Palace take their inspiration from a wide historical sweep, starting with Bach and the baroque and encompassing European folk, the avant-garde pop of Kate Bush, the poetry of Leonard Cohen, the timeless song-crafting of Abba and the filmic grandeur of Scott Walker and Nancy & Lee. The 12-track album is produced by GRICE & features Richard Barbieri (Porcupine Tree, Japan, Hogarth & Barbieri) on keyboards, synthesisers and as co-producer on a number of tracks. Alexandrine is mixed by Steve Jansen (Japan, Rain Tree Crow) who also lends his unique percussive input, tonalities and treatments. 
The album features musical contributions from a unique line-up, including Hossam Ramzy on percussion (Led Zeppelin, Peter Gabriel), Italian freeform trumpet player Luca Calabrese, BJ Cole on pedal steel guitar (Felt, T-Rex), Suzanne Barbieri (vocals) and violinist Steve Bingham (No-Man). The core band comprises of Al Swainger on bass and 05Ric on drums (Gavin Harrison).

Like many disabled, poor and vulnerable people in this country, I'm terrified by the prospect of another 5 years of this. Plenty of people agreed with me, with 20-odd singers from all over the country contributing to the crowd-sourced chorus line. Rock band.Dave Graney (vox/gtr) and Clare Moore(drums/vibes/keys)  were in the Moodists-post punk Melbourne band.Then Dave Graney and the Coral Snakes. 

Graney and Moore have been involved in making of roughly 30 albums. Also about 7 digital releases, four or five albums as part of other peoples bands, several compilations, two solo albums from Clare Moore as well as her side projects The Dames and The Routines. Four feature film soundtracks. Dave Graney released a book about his music life in 2011, "1001 australian nights" and a more personal book (more focused on all the jobs the took to be a musician) in 2018 called WORKSHY. A second book of lyrics spanning the years 1980-2023 called THERE HE GOES WITH HIS EYE OUT came out in 2023. 
2024 sees an album come out on Classic Jewel case Compact Disc called (strangely)(emotional).
