Two steps forward, 3 steps back . . . Total mixed emotions after this last year, including musically - been alot of drivel on the techno scene, and the club situation has obviously been frustrating - but there's still been lots of quality VAs and releases, and it's been good to see plenty of acts getting angry and political. Whether it's The Bug's apocalyptic remembrance of Grenfell, or Hide's terrifying condemnation of Brock Turner (via his dad's grovelling statement of support), there's been plenty to remind us that there's still alot of work to be done. Hopefully things go a bit more back to normal at last next year and we all get to feel safe on the dancefloor again . . .

Another year of highs - normality! kinda - and lows - Ukraine, Tory scum, cost of living etc - finally in the bin! Have done a coupla these kinda angry lookback mixes since lockdown, wasn't sure about continuing it but been so much and so many lost this last year that it felt rude not to get it off the chest a bit. This is mostly stuff that was released last year but was a bit too heavy to fit in with most of the other stuff I'm currently digging and playing, with a few oldies or 2021 tracks that still felt relevant or appropriate. RIP to too many, let's see if things get any better in 2023 . . .

F*ck 2022 Mix (industrial, EBM, techno, noise, metal)

A malevolent obscurity is followed by a sentimental melancholy drifting towards a deep journey into the introspection and the subconscious. It constantly emerges into the horrific and ritualistic soundscape of cryptic techno, of ancient tribal images, and of industrial dystopian visions, all melancholy is then shattered for having embraced evilness.
Giuseppe Sciretti, better known as Nigh/T\mare Alias, is an Italian DJ, producer, and live performer who is based in Puglia (South Italy). In 2017, he released a solo EP on the Bulgarian label DVNTT, and the following year, he made his vinyl debut with "Hypnagogia" on Thrènes records after also releasing music on labels like Voidance, Depth Request, and Borders Of Known. Blame Rec, VuMantra... in 2021, he released his first 2x12" album, "Katharsis," on the label that is now called Thrènes, and in 2022, he released "Ceremony" on Forbidden Teachings, which led to numerous collaborations with international musicians like Pact Infernal, Torn Relics, Alexey Volkow, LAIR, Prophàn, Killawatt, and many others.

The mix offers an emotional journey, featuring a carefully curated selection of post-industrial, minimal wave, post-punk, and synthpop songs, combined with Middle Eastern ethnic instruments and alchemical lyrics.

Carmilla Sioux, a DJ and producer based in Barcelona, specializes in dark electronic music, including Dark Wave, EBM, Electro, Industrial, and Dark Techno. With over a decade of experience as a bassist in Post-Punk bands, she gained recognition in the underground scene and has performed alongside artists like Filmmaker and Petra Flurr.

In 2022, she released her debut EP, "Witchcraft," and is currently working on her second EP, "Lumina Obscura," which will be mastered by Nightcrawler and released later this year. Carmilla also organizes “From Hell To Disco” events to promote the local music scene.

Использовали они тогда для этого два огромных системных блока с такими же огромными пузатыми мониторами. Их техно для своего времени было новаторским и богато железными звуками. Сейчас PQ -17 это Виталий Кудрявцев, и основной фокус его внимания это электро.

2024.12.21 - E L A Invites SOLMA

2024 felt like a bad dream, even shittier than the one before. When my mum got taken into care in 2023 it was like her worst nightmare finally  coming true, and there was nothing I could do about it. Then my wee brothers illnesses and self-blame took him away. Damage was done when he woke up next to one of his best pals dead a couple years before, even tho he managed to convince the people that initially blamed him otherwise (the same people that made me n mum have to leave her home the first time) I don't think he ever got round to forgiving himself (i don't think it was anything to do w him, they were on different trips and what happened could have happened to most anyone and we are def all lucky it hasn't happened more to all of us). 

2024 just kept swinging between horror and defiant bursts of joy, il be damned if I can't use something as an excuse for a silver lining. For every moment of peace and happiness there was something else upsetting, and that's not even getting into world events, which I know weigh heavy over all of us. It's like that bad dream we all woke up to in 2020 keeps shifting the goalposts and saying 'ha, you thought I was gone, wait til you see this!' And I have no doubt 25 will have it's cards up its sleeve ready to play just when we get complacent. 

So here's another of those grim grotty but hopefully cathartic mixes to flush out the negative energy a bit. I'm gonna keep pushing this year to be more creative, more helpful, more present and hopefully I won't have to do another one this time next year . . .
