I don't do this much at 80, but Friday about noon I'll be headed to a small family friendly festival in the Georgia mountains where I'll be listening to more than making music and gathering with long time family like friends who I have joined with at such events for years. This will be my time to see those folks again. This song grew out of similar events out in the pines, where we made music together on thrown together stages that we called "down town"! I will be in the company of loved ones, The song, with it's Southern Country Rock flavor, is a little music man 'splaining about why we do what we do. I know some of you have been there too! The way I figure it, you guys are in the band with us! Many thanks to Howard Williams for the tasty harp, Bryan Carter for picking everything with strings and other implements, and Mark Lyle for having my back on vocals. Dancing is encouraged!!

The Reason Why We Play (In The Pines) Lyrics:

The Reason Why We Play (In The Pines)

This song was soo good but soo bad.   I recorded it on a Roland VS880 hard disc recorder.  Did a couple of rough mixes and was going to go back and re-do the solo. ( the current solo was just a place holder ).  Well, the thing locked up on me and I had to reboot, so the thing ate 4 of my songs including this one.  I was soo bummed out.   I couldn't recapture the original vibe again, so this is one of the rough mixed.  I love the song, just wish I could have finished it.  

It's a song about some chick that moved in next door to me.  We started dating and it was a great time.  We recently got reacquainted after 20 some years and are dating again!   wow, that's crazy!

Following the custom I practiced after 6 winters in Vermont, this is the Mixed Bag band's official declaration of spring! Instrumental featuring Bryan Carter playing slide on an old National metal body resonator mandolin, something you rarely hear. For him it's just another bit of magic from his bag of tricks. Imagine setting up to play on the screen porch in March and letting it rip!
