Zur Gruam

Curtis Newton, der von kurzem sein erstes Release auf Rennbahn Records feiern durfte und gestern eine großartige EP mit Remixen von René Bourgeois und Marian Herzog auf Jannowitz Records erschienen ist, steuert heute mit unserer Nummer 24 ein grandioses Set zu unserer Serie bei!
Der Gründer von Grenzfrequenz ist ein guter Freund unserer Crew und steht in München seit über einem halben Jahrzehnt für qualitativ hochwertige Partys. 
Mittlerweile kann er auch Gigs in der ganzen Republik vorweisen und hat auch seine ersten Internationalen Erfahrungen gesammelt.
Wir werden in Zukunft noch einiges von ihm hören.

Interview:

Wie und wann bist du zur Elektronischen Musik gekommen?
Als ich 16 war bin ich über HipHop Instrumentals zu TripHop, Drum&Bass und schliesslich irgendwie beim Electro gelandet. Damals aber noch der "richtige" Elektro mit Dynamik Bass System, Aux88 oder Exzakt. Täglich in den Plattenladen gegangen und hart angefixt worden. Seit dem entwickelt sich meine Liebe zur Musik im selben Maße, wie die einzelnen Styles, die ich spiele. 

Welche Musikalischen Momente sind dir besonders in Erinnerung geblieben?
Sicherlich ein Highlight ist bzw. war mein erstes Release im August. Nach vielen Jahren Spaß und Arbeit habe ich nun meine erste EP "Noom" auf Jannowitz Records herausgebracht. Ein großer Traum ist damit in Erfüllung gegangen. Ganz zu schweigen von meinem ersten Track "Dagobah" auf Rennbahn Records.

Wo konnte man dich bisher antreffen?
Mich kann man mindestens einmal im Monat mit meiner Crew von GrenzFrequenz als Resident DJ in der Roten Sonne in München antreffen. Ansonsten sieht man mich öfters in Hamburg oder Berlin.

Gibt es Zukunftspläne?
In nächster Zeit stehen noch ein paar Releases an und ich beginne eine Zusammenarbeit mit Oliver Deuerling, der schon auf Stil vor Talent released hat. Und das wird mal richtig interessant. Ich freu mich auf die nächsten Monate!!

HeavensGate Deep Guest mix

Unsere Nummer 25 hat der sehr begabte Wiener, leschueft für uns zusammen gestellt. Wir kennen und schätzen ihn jetzt schon, seit fast einem Jahr, als er uns mit einem seiner ersten Sets auf Soundcloud sehr begeistern konnte. Seine ruhigen, stimmigen und herzvollen Arbeiten zeigt er mittlerweile in den bekanntesten Podcastserien wie u.a. bei Room84, Electronic Groove, Deepist, Sunset Grooves... Umso mehr freuen wir uns, dass er sich dieses mal für uns die Zeit für genommen hat.

Wie und wann bist du zur elektronischen Musik gekommen?

Mit 16 Jahren bin ich von französischem HipHop zum franz. House (Étienne de Crecy, Superfunk, Daft Punk,...) gerutscht. Lange Zeit war ich dann auf Drum’n’Bass eingestellt, bis ich vor 9 Jahren auf Minimal gestoßen bin. Von da an ging die Reise über Deep House und Techno, bis ich im Hier und Jetzt bei Downtempo gelandet bin. Big Love!

Welche musikalischen Momente sind dir besonders in Erinnerung geblieben?

Besonders in Erinneurng geblieben sind mir genau drei Momente: Flex, Fusion und Heimlich! Im damals noch sehr vom Underground geprägten Flex habe ich Dj Bailey und MC Tali (Drum'n'Bass vom allerfeinsten) live erlebt. Mein Fusion-Erlebnis 2014 ist in einem Wort zusammen zu fassen: Unglaublich! Ende August diesen Jahres habe ich als Teil des Heimlich-Kollektivs einen wunderschönen Wald-Rave organisiert, den ich so schnell nicht vergessen werde.

Wo konnte man dich bisher antreffen?

Bisher war ich ein „Wohnzimmer-DJ“ und habe durch Podcasts auf Soundcloud kommuniziert. Zwei Mal habe ich fern meiner Zielgruppe bei einer Hochzeit und einer Vernissage aufgelegt und zwei Mal habe ich bis jetzt auch schon für die Downtempo-Crowd aufgelegt.  Das Feedback war enorm und hat mich in meinem Tun bestärkt.

Gibt es Zukunftspläne?

Oh ja, und wie! Ich bin seit kurzem bei dem Downtempo-Kollektiv Heimlich (@Heimlichaufsc) dabei, aber wir haben jetzt schon Großes vor. Im Moment sind wir voller Tatendrang in Wien Downtempo-technisch etwas voran zu bringen. Martha van Straaten kommt im September, Stiglitz & Bernstein kommen Anfang Oktober und Caleesi kommt Mitte Oktober. Bei letzterem Event bin ich Support Act. Irgendwann wollen wir auch in Berlin spielen.

Interview:

How and when did you get into electronic music? 

From a very early age when my aunt gave me my first CD for my 8th birthday, an electronic hits compilation which had a couple of tracks from Faithless. I have always listened to every genre of music but as I grew older I started discovering musicians such as Moby,  Lil Louie, A guy called Gerald, frankie knuckles and enjoyed the disco/house vibe. I started DJ’ing 8 years ago and was heavily influenced by deep house guru’s such as Jimpster, The Timewriter and Martin Dawson.
 
Which musical moments have been espescially memorable to you? 

Seeing Laurent Garnier for the first time live. Dj’ing at Burning Man in 2014 on one of the art cars on the playa was a surreal experience. My very first DJ gig when I mixed at my university was super scary but awesome at the same time.

Which plans do you have for the future?

To develop my project Sunset Grooves into an event that will take place around various locations. I cannot say more ;) On a personal note, it is to mix at unique events and festivals and maybe look to produce some tracks with a couple of musician friends. To carry on bringing good vibes and smiles to everyone I meet on the dance floor or behind the decks!
 
If you could choose to play at any venue in the world, which place would it be?
 
Afrika Burn hopefully next year as it appeals to me more than Burning Man as I feel it is more roots and intimate. However one venue in particular that comes to mind is the Festival Nomade in Chile :)
