An aborted song turned into a little instrumental. It used to be called Used To Be but, I did a much slower version which I preferred. I put this out a few days ago with a vocal but deleted it and replaced it with this version.
I kept running out of breath when I was singing it as I just couldn't get the lyrics to flow properly 😁

Symphony in E Flat Minor - Conflictus 
I have attempted to create a potent emotional and technical foundation in this composition by using E-flat minor, to portray two critical intervals to define conflicting characters,  the minor second and the minor seventh.

To create an emotional profound darkness I have used cello melody in (E-flat minor) to immediately establishes a somber, monumental, and deeply introspective mood, setting the stage for a serious dramatic work that follows.

Acute Tension (Minor Second) has been deliberately used to injects the music with sharp dissonance and anguish. This abrasive, element drives conflict, often suggesting the intensity of the E-flat Phrygian mode.

Somber Depth (Minor Seventh) strings provide the essential melancholic color and stability of the minor key to allow for broad, cohesive irritating melodies to define chaos and conflict.

The use of alchemy pads & strings in between the abrasive, close tension of the minor second and the deep has successfully created a reflective sorrowful mood of the minor seventh.

This is the latest in our series of songs Carl has written about us. Being as both Tez, a lifelong, and to a lesser degree, Carl are Manchester United fans, Carl siezed on the opportunity to celebrate their shared fandom. Although the lyrics are a little inscrutable to us Americans, we love that football (soccer) fans from across the pond will know exactly what he's talking about. 

  Carl wrote this song on his acoustic guitar, and upon sharing it with us, we weren't sure as to the direction we wanted to take it. JJ threw down first, adding his good-time-sounding upright piano and strikingly beautiful organ to the mix first. He also added the subtle human voice choral synth you hear throughout. Enchanted with Carl's composition, Josh next added his bass and mandolin both in the same recording session, without even closing his DAW. Mark was in right after, adding his friendly fiddle solo as well as fiddle fills throughout. Being as the song is about him, Tez came along shortly after and added the tuneful intro and outro on his guitar. Then, as it was just about to sit for a while, Ken added his very tasteful, perfect drums to the mix, thus completing the rhythm section. 

  Before we put a bow on it, though, Stephen made it back from his week in the Colorado wilderness in time to add his magical banjo to the mix. Speaking of mixes, now it was time for one, and we turned it over to him, our in house pro, to do the honors.

  We all really enjoyed working on this one. It is an example of Eclectic Collective taking one of Carls songs and having our way with it. Always a team effort getting it over the line, but we always manage to do it. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it.

True Red Devil - Eclectic Collective

Years ago, my brothers and I had spent several weeks getting my dad's house ready to sell after he had passed. I was in the realtor's office ready to sign the paper work when the prospective buyers asked why I wasn't buying the house I grew up in.  I said (not thinking) "Too many ghosts".  The realtor immediately jumped in and said, "he means memories" to which I smiled confirming the needed clarification:)  It does beg the question however, how many "ghosts" haunt our lives; bad decisions, fractured relationships, things we did or failed to do.  I have found hope and forgiveness in the Christian faith, others have found healing in the passing of time, others still carry a heavy burden of what could have been or should have been.  Peter explores the theme in poignant verse to Seagull's quixotic soundtrack.  I am honored to  contribute a few colors to the tapestry;)

another sleepless night that led to something live on my phone.

I can't imagine a world without you,

St Oswald Church stands in a field on the old Hadrians Wall looking North across the Cheviot hills and beyond into Scotland. The Skies are dramatic at times and the weather can change quickly. The clouds roll across usually across from the West. It is a beautiful spot and a lovely little church. This is an attempt to capture Northumberland, Cumbria and The Scottish Borders with just a bit of church.
